New PC results
« on: May 21, 2002, 01:35:55 PM »
After a week of flying I am really enjoying my new PC.
1800 xp
256mb corsair cas 2 DDR333 ram
Radeon 8500 retail
MAxtor ata133 60gb fluid bearing HD(wierd messages on boot up from this thing once or twice)
Samsung 900nf 19 inch monitor.
Asus 333 mother board
Sblive 5.1
3com PCI ethernet card.(ADSL)
Windows XP home.
Generic case with 350 watt PS.

I almost always get 74 fps. My shooting is way more predictable
the Vid card/Monitor seem to be great.
At times I dip down to 50 fps or so(burning base, vulched by 3 p38s..one blows up) but almost allways at 74fsp.

I canNot get my game port rudders to work with my usb Saitek cyborg gold.. And I cant get the twist on the cyborg to work either..I dont know if it is an Win xp thing...
I will be getting my cougar hotas later this week and then I should be complete...

The graphics in the game are increadable compared to what I was used too.. But are there any tweeks that I should use for the Radeon? Any recomended drivers? Any recomended AGP settings? etc....

For those of you with 1300 US (2k canadian) to spend on a new system...you will not be disapointed, a new fresh system rocks....

I too recently got a new system...was definately time for an upgrade. Now I get very comparable to you....steady at 75 fps....even in thick smoke, furball stays in hi60s. I am guessing doesn't go above 75 cuz of refresh on monitor...got a nec 19 inch flat screen monitor. Anyways....75 constant fr is high enough for me...probably would never notice difference with anything higher.

Oh ya...the specs

Dragon Full-Tower Case (340-Watt PS)
Intel Pentium 4 Processor 2.0GHz 400MHz FSB w/ 512KB Cache
256MB RDRAM PC-800
60GB Seagate Barracuda ATA IV 7200RPM 2MB Cache
NVIDIA GeForce3 Ti 500 w/64MB 4X AGP
KoolMaxx Video Cooling System
SoundBlaster LIVE! 5.1
16X /48X IDE DVD-ROM Drive w/Software MPEG-2 Decoder
Microsoft Windows XP Professional

My wife actually bought the thing for me!!!!

Little fix which works in my old Radeon ViVo 64 /Win2k and it also should work in new Radeons and XP.

Hey Mox!
I run at 1280 32bit. Maybe I should see if I can get the monitor going at a higher refresh rate..Its PNP but maybe its selecable.
The monitor is reputably capable of 87hz at 1600..which may be cool to check out.
