Site about Warbirds of WWII
« on: May 22, 2002, 02:34:10 PM »
Hi all,

i've seen so many great sites created from members of our community so I thought I give it a try and made one on my own (mainly cause the technologie (XML) is of interest for me).
It's a site about Warbirds and if it is interesting for u I'll add new features, planes and data resp. correct the wrong data:) .

The site is based on XML and XSL (don't have a provider with database and CGI support) so u'll need Internet Explorer 6.0. Won't work with earlier version. I don't know if its work with Netscape or Opera but i doubt it. If someone is interested I'll send him the XML and XSL files I made.
Unfortunately the site takes a few seconds (minutes?) to load particularly if u choose to view all planes.

Awaiting ur response, here it is:
Warbirds of WWII

BTW: the URL will as soon as i found a good free host.

@robsan: Shall i send u the HTML-File?

The website doesn't work for me, and I visited w/ IE 6.  I got the header at the top, but no content below.  Have you tested it from a different machine then the one you developed it on?

Yes, i've tested it and for me it works fine. Do you get an error message? What Version of IE do u use (I have 6.0.26)? Do u allow ActiveX-Controls to run on ur Browser (only used for XML)?

Ah, I just realized I have IE5.  You didn't answer my original question about whether you tested it on your own machine or if you did any testing from ANOTHER machine, if not, you might want ot check it out.

You should code your site to work better with older browsers.  I get a showmanufac undefined script error in IE5, and that's still used more then IE6.

Yes I tested this site on 3 different systems and all work fine.

Sorry but I won't code the site to work with other Browsers cause other (earlier) Browsers don't support XML in the latest Version of the W3C .
BTW if u use IE5 I would suggest to install IE6 cause its faster more stable and more "cool" :)

What data and planes you're interested to see at the site? Any suggestions?

Duedel, I get the following error message:

"Fehler: Server oder DNS kann nicht gefunden werden"

I have IE 6.0.26, and have set the Security Settings to "minimum", but still no luck :(

Anyone have a clue what i'm doing wrong?

Can u open the main URL www.ottoweller.de (BTW in section "Wir über uns" theres a little photo of me)?
Maybe try a ping to the planes site. Anyway i'll send u the pages and a few pictures. Today I'm not at work but I'll ask our administrators why u can't open this page. Do u use a proxy?

Slick site Duedel.  Works for me with IE6, but not netscape.  Is IE6 the most commonly used browser?  I've been using netscape forever it seems.  I just recently started using IE6.  I discovered to my horror that my webpages were all screwed up using IE6, while they looked fine to me with netscape.  How embarrasing!  Can some of you guys have a look at:

Spitfire Performance Testing

and see if its formatted correctly on your browsers? Thanks!

Hi Duedel:

I generally use Netscape 4.79 although I do have 6.2 as well.  Neither one seems to support XML. although I didn't mess with preferences to see if I could make it work.  I see you've made some additions to your site since I last looked ;)  No kidding, I was up in to the wee hours this morning fixing my html code in order to format properly in IE6.  Glad to hear it looks ok on your computer :)  Funked, nashwan; why didn't you guys tell me it was screwed up!  hehe ;)

Hmmm it should work with Netscape 7.0 (hopefully).
