I posted a some notes over in the Terrain Editor General Forum in hopes that HT and crew would consider this map (or something like it) for use in the MA.

Feel free to check it out.

I would appreciate any feedback you folks care to give.

Many Kudos to jihad for the texture tiles!!! I modified some of them and created my own rock, farm, and water.

You make a good point, but look at the grid.

The current terrains are 256 miles square (10.25 grid squares). Some of them don't use the entire space. That gives us a playing space of 250 miles square (roughly).

Celebes uses a 512 mile square map (20.5 grid squares) and has a playing space of roughly 375 miles square.
That's almost 45% larger than what we are used to seeing in the MA.
I agree with the need for space to accomodate the extra players we now have, but I think that anything larger would have a negative effect.

Yea, looks good, I want to play on that map. Dont you think though that the North country would have a slight advantage? The East and West countries are pretty close (appears that way in this view) Maybe those two arms of the island should curve slightly away from each other to better position the HQ and some resourses.
No ports for North country?

What do you have to do to get this in the rotation. Be nice to try it out and see what happens, all the other maps are starting to get old.

Dunno.. looks like it makes it a 2 base front on all sides. As one side captures a base, it will move to a 1 base front.

Its much too dense.

Have you downloaded the terrain and checked it?
I think the picture alone may not do the spread of the bases justice.
The 3 bases in the center are V Bases with PT spawns on the lake. They only reach accross enemy lines (default config) to each other. Other spawn points are placed to help offset the effect of what you point out.
If anything, I would think the Northern country would get banged be cause it has the least number of frontal defenses. That is why I gave it a spread. The extra distance discourages the extra furballs.
Compared to Mindanao, there is twice the distance between the 3 frontal air bases.

Are you missing the larger size of this map? This map has more spread than most of the maps we play on now. Take another look at the size of the grid. The icons in the shot are 14 miles wide. If you DL and zoom in on the map, you will see that most of the bases are more spread out than they appear here.

Also, the layout distance and starting altitudes should help prevent a 1 base front.

I'm getting the feeling that the pic of the map distorts the true spread of the bases.
Maybe this will help.
Here the icons are smaller and don't hide as much of the map.

Hmmm...

It might not turn into a South East gangbang.. The width of the channel between North and South East is more than 50 miles in all parts. The distance between two closest bases (except the island base) is roughly 70 miles.

I think if the 10.14 island base is placed further to the north, and mainland of South East is distanced further a bit to the east, so the width of the SW-SE channel maintains about 60 miles generally, it might turn out to be pretty good. Particularly if the distance of the two bases at 6.9 and 8.9 are a bit further, and the VH at 8.7 should be deeper into mainland.

But one thing that bothers me is, if there are people willing to 'go the distance', the North and South West country always has an alternate route into South East by crossing the channel directly. The North and South West countries do not have any alternate routes to each other.. I think that's why people worry that the 'non-furballing folk' will always choose to target South East.

How about if you place a series of small island bases or something at the west coast? Give an alternate route for North and South West to fight.. ?

EXCELENT Feedback! This is what I was hoping for!

I think that there is potential for 2 fronts between the 2 southern countries. This is the reason that I put the V Base so close to the water.
It give TG's a chance to nullify the gap.

The SE has a route north via the island.
The SE also has a route West via the medium airfield that is in the 8,7,8 sector. It is at 8.4K.
The west coast also has CV groups (3,9 and 5,15). This should help provide an Alt. Route.
