somthing i discovered i could do with the tiffie.
« on: May 26, 2002, 02:53:56 PM »
I was playing about offline practicing snap rolls when i discovered i could get into a violent spin and if i left go of the stick it would continue to spin for eternity.  However getting out of spins in the tiffie is easy- so i could ride the spin down, begin recovery at  1-1.5k and fly away without smashing into the ground.

Would it be considered a legit tactic to do this online and "play dead".  I haven't done it online yet cause i was wondering how it would look on other peoples FE.....ie the flipfloppy manouver.

Can any other planes do this?

Got a film of me doing it to show everyone what i'm talking about.

"Willy's gone and made another,
Something like it's elder brother-
Wing tips rounded, spinner's bigger.
Unbraced tailplane ends it's figure.
One-O-nine F is it's name-
F is for futile, not for fame."

Sounds like a legitimate tactic to me

LOL... legitimate or not I've used it before.  Works like a charm, especially if they hit you and get you smoking.

I got bounced one time by two 190s when I was cruising along at about 15,000 feet.  One of em smoked my engine in a pass, and I stalled it out and let it spin down.  Recovered her at a bit under 5k and flew home at roughly 500 mph lol.

i have done this in buffs quite a few times.  If i take a hit to oil or fuel and ive no real chance of winning the fight, ill play possum and do a death dive to the deck.

It has worked about 50% of the time and i am able to rtb safely.  :)

Twin-engined planes can do that by cutting power on 1 engine and pulling hard up and to the dead engine side. I once even entered a flat spin and shot down 2 guys while spraying on what I was sure was my last ride down. *G* :D

I do that too, works good, though I find people won't even let you crash if your missing a wing they gotta blow you up (at least in the H2H games where you have like 999999ammo) but it does make you harder to hit :)

And if you ask me, any tactic is legit, its all a contest of who can out think the other guy, and if that means doin crazey rolls and playin dead of course,
We use garrilla warfare today, as we did in the revalutionary war, at the time it was concidered as "Cowardly" by some, But it worked, thats why we gained our independance from briton, which was by far more powerfull.

I allways love to do what the enemy least expects, even if its totally crazey, it can work :)

Legal tactic:D
Of course. It was used very very much in WW2, and is used very very much in AH.
Didn't know that the tiffie could snap so wildly, thanks for the tip ;)
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)
