From the clipboard select “setup”.  Select “joystick”; click on “joystick”.   Click on “Select Joystick” and in the Joystick column highlight “mouse’.  In the AH Control column highlight “View Pitch”.   In the joystick Input column highlight “Y Axis”.  Click on the “set Input” button. To set the “View Yaw” in the AH Control column, highlight it, highlight the “mouse” in the Joystick column, then highlight the “X Axis” in the Joystick Input column.  Click on “set input” button.  Click on the Apply button.

Select “Calibrate”.   Move your joystick and throttle to calibrate them.  To calibrate the mouse hold the right button of the mouse and move the mouse right and left and up and down.  Click on “OK”.  Jump into a plane, hit the F8 key, hold the right button and move the mouse around to work your view system.  When you release the right mouse button the view should automatically return to the forward view.

Now if we only knew of a mouse that could be strapped to your head………

Anyone know of a web site that offers a device that would make this view system useable in AH?

Build something to hold the mouse above your head.

Tape a mouse pad to your head.

Home built TrackIR.

No, not using it. Waaayyy to expensive for me.

People have been using it with Il-2 and judging from their experiences (view doesn't stay centered, some people getting major FPS losses, if it shares IRQs with devices- more problems)... so I dunno.

Some people have it working and they like it.

Although, I'm not even sure if it works with AH- it should, but I dunno.

Pongo if you have any joy please post back here as I've already tried as have others to map the mouse panning to the Cougar ministick. Each time I have done so the view snaps to an up-right position.

Mine works. You just need to move the mouse stick around when you calibrate the joystick in AH. I set the mouse stick button to hold the right mose button when clicked and released when clicked again. Here's how:

USE MTYPE A5

BTN T1 /t /p F8 /r KD(mouse_rb)
/t /p F1 /r KU(mouse_rb)

Eagler, don't know if this is better then an 8-way hat, but would be more realistic to move your head then having to mess with switches.  Seems to me this would be a nice addition to the hat switches.  I have enjoyed using the PAN mode (f8) on climb out to look around and the movement of the image is nice and smooth, very pleasing.  If the trackIR thing works I for one will prolly buy one to try it:)

I don't think using the mouse thingie on a say Cougar or Saitek X36 or X45 would be as useful as using a separate device for the mouse view system.

Now, we need some feedback from you guys who are using TrackIR or a simaliar device.

i honestly cannot see teh value in using your mouse for the veiw system (im to busy using it to FLY right now) the numpad works well for me (now all i have to do is repace all the numpad keys with the hour's of the clock so iwhen i press 6 i check my 6)

(note to self sell these "flight sim keyboards for money)

TrackIR

OZkansas,

TrackIR is the best thing for looking around in sims really
Better than a microstick on a Cougar imo, coz it's so natural and handsfree at that. ;)

Always wondered if i could get mouseview to work in AH coz i'm much interested in using the trackIR for it same as i'm using it in IL2.

Gonna certainly try your suggestions, see if it works thx !:)

OZkansas, just tried it!

trackIR works great in AH, fast, smooth, natural and handsfree! Track a con, look at the instruments, look at the ball, quickly check six it's all done with very minor headmovements. And looking around can be done very quickly! I actually haven't used the snapviews when i tried the trackIR, but even at default speeds the trackIR pans a great deal faster than snapviews. But there is a tradeoff to quick panning speed with the trackIR. It requires a good amount of headcontrol, which ofcourse is again a matter of time and practice. The good thing is that the learning process comes kinda natural as you move your head into the direction you want to look. Checking six is just a matter of moving your real head say 5 degs to either left or right

BTW it took me several tries to follow your exact instructions and get it right :o LOL

Bit strange that you have to calibrate the mouse also though, next to calibrating your stick throttle and rudder i mean. When i finally could use my handheld mouse to look around, i started the trackIR software to experiment. And it worked simply wonderfully, the only things i had to adjust in the trackIR software were the panning speed and i had to invert the Y-axis.

Other than that, it was very similar to the experience i get when using the trackIR in IL2. The differences are that in AH mouseview seems to be very fast (extremely fast!) But no problem, via the trackIR software i can tone down the panning speed to more realistic levels :) Track an aircraft or any object of choice is just a matter of looking at it. The other difference with IL2's mouseview is that you can get the Linda Blair six view in AH :D

Downside:

You have to keep pressing a button (right mouse button) to have it active all the time.  I don't know why they made it this way because it is only limiting to me.
If i want to temorarily disable mouseview, I'd rather have it as a toggle (1 press mouseview on, next press mouseview off and recentre)

You see, I've used the trackIR for quite a long time now in IL2 specifically, and i've gotten very used to having the trackIR active all the time shooting/tracking/zooming. Sure you can pause it, but once you have a certain amount of headcontrol, you don't wanna be pausing nor recentering it. It gives a greater sense of freedom that way, but it requires a fair amount of headcontrol.

So for new trackIR users it may actually be more convenient the way AH has it. dunno...that may just be a matter of preference. I know when i started using trackIR i used it just like i described it by pressing a key to make the trackIR active. It's just i found out that the more i became used to trackIR i was pressing that key more often than not. So i used the pause function of the trackIR instead as a toggle. Nowadays i hardly ever pause it nor recentre.  But as i said i'd rather have a key to toggle mouseview on and off.

In any case the trackIR software is setup with many options so that you can use a custom key to emulate the mouse buttons. So i programmed the rightmousebutton emulation key onto my stick and kept it pressed while looking around the cockpit. Alas i don't have a radio switch on my stick but maybe i can find a workaround for that.

I wish i could show you how it looks using trackIR in AH, coz it's actually quite amazing. Cockpit graphics aside, it looks just like it does in IL2 but maybe a bit faster and imo actually easier to use in AH if you leave out the part that you have to press your right mousebutton. With a programmable HOTAS that could be solved easily i think. I bet many AH players would be surprised to see how well trackIR works in AH once they tried it.;)

Sry for the long story but i am just glad i got it to work!

About attaching a mouse to your head:
1 - I want to see a picture :D
2 - Take into consideration that a looking back will show you the back of your chair instead of the monitor :D

:)

With trackIR you can attach a reflective dot to the boom of your mic or headset. Which is what most people do or you can attach one to the bridge of a pair of glasses.

And to check six with trackIR in AH will not at all require you to look at the back of your chair. Since the mouselook in AH is so fast it will prolly require you to move your head less than 5 degs to either side :p

But the sensation is as if you turned your head 180 degs to get the Linda Blair view :D

I purchased a TrackIR and am very pleased with it:)  I haven't gotten to the point of just using it alone.  I still go back to the instant views when dogfighting.  Using the TrackIR is much more realistic and intutitive then the view systems, but will take me along time to get used to it.

Have you used the feature of activating other things such as gear etc. with the Keymapping?
