About realism in M.A.

There is a clear self-contraddiction in the behavior of some of us i M.A.
We are all claiming for more reality,most relistic planes and performances, more relism in bombing effects,weather an so on,
but someone forgets this realism when talking about real pilot behaviour in WWII.
We are talking of WAR (though this is a simulation its war too), and how do you think real pilots act in a battle?
I think theese are strong points:
1. Save your life and return home (a living pilot can hit enemy the day after a dead one cannot)
2.Save your plane as you can, al least part of it
3.Hit your enemy in any way you can

So STOP peeping like chicks if you are hit in an HO, stop calling dweed,newbie, an so on, if you are vulched, and stop naming someone a runner or rabbit if he disengage in difficult situation or if it is outnumbered; those are real war pilot behaviours.
Anyone is free to fly and combat as he thinks is better but we must respect theese behaviors and cohabit with them since we want a real simulation

Anyway i hate when they hit me in HO

  1. Wrong. Combat is like driveing past an auto accident. You know it can happen to you, But deep down you dont belive it ever will.
  2. Wrong. They drill into you from day one. The mission comes first, to the exclusion of any other consideration.
  3. Close. They teach you to try to always  have a plan of some kind.

  I suggest you stick to talking about computer games. You dont know squat about real life warfare.

The only thing not modeled in this game is the survival instinct.

I say to make the game erase a .exe or an e-mail file from your hard disk at random every time you die in AH.

Now that will get the adrenalin pumping, and those instincts be truly modeled! Heeeheee

Not to belittle your contention stegor, but I hate that piss tubes aren't modeled . Nothing is worse than being deep in indian country and your bladder is pushing the edges of its performance envelope .
Wait, how would virtual piss tubes help relieve my bladder, I'm not going to pee on my computer or anything. Well whatever, I'm getting another beer .

Well easymo, I'm glad you're here to "set us all straight" <smirk>

I think you are quite wrong about the mission being more important thatn ANYTHING else, even your own life at all times.

It's entirely dependent on the the importance of the mission versus the importance of saving life (and the training and experience that go with it) and equipment (which may be irreplacable in the short run).

For example, you may send a flight on a mission to destroy a supply depot, but if the supply depot were unexpectedly CAP'd by a strong force, do you necessarily want to destroy that depot so badly that you're willing to lose all the pilots and planes on the mission?

That's why missions are usually better defined than that.  You might tell the pilots to destroy the depot, but avoid loss of aircraft... in which case the mission might be "failed" if an aircraft is lost even if the depot were destroyed.

Likewise, you might say "the guys on the ground on depending on us for this one... Destroy that depot at all costs!"  In which case the pilots might try to destroy the depot if at all possible.


In on-line sims, it is very easy to be a "digital hero" and and say "the mission before all", after all we have nothing to lose except some personal image of ourselves, some points, and having to start the mission all over again...  Personally, I prefer (more the most part) to try and preserve my virtual life.  But that doesn;t mean I won't do a suicide run on the ack, or a death-dealing furball once in a while  .

 After 2 or 3 years of this. Just seeing the word realism, is enough to make me grind my teeth. I have seen it used to argue both sides of an essue more times thatn I can count.

 It is impossible to even, come close to reproduceing RL combat on a computer. They could redraw the art, so that it looks like we are fighting star skippers on the planet mongo. and it would be the same game.

 IMHO creating a game of this complexity is more then enough of an accomplishment. If they drop the pretence of reproducing WW2 air combat And start approching it from a game play stand point. This could turn out on the same level as the invention of chess.

 Vila. I think you are wrong also. For example. During the 68' Tet offensive, my 12 man team was ordered to meet 2 Battalion of NVA regulars coming into Qui Nhon South Vietnam. We were to stop them long enough for the First Cav to get off there butts and get up there. I dont think you understand just how expendable a  soldier is.
