Rubber bullets and other wierdness in CT
« on: June 05, 2002, 07:24:56 AM »
Last night.

I've never had "rubber bullet" syndrome so bad, and I kept checking my connex and it looked perfect.    Several times I got such a concentrated volume of fire on the target I expected him to explode or lose major pieces, but he flew away unharmed.   I noticed no warping, ever.

Others were observing other strange goings on, like a Mossie that rocketed to 20,000 ft in a few seconds after taking hits from several pilots, and a B-26 whose 50 cals were accurate out to 2.4 km.

I've never had a problem in the CT before, and given last night's circumstances, I would expect to see a really messy net status graph.  But mine was clear and smooth.

Anybody else notice problems?

Hmm...I've not had any such problems, but did ctd a three times in the space of about 15 minutes a couple nights ago.  Ping times were below a hundred and seemed stable.  Hopefully it's just a transient problem.  We'll just have to keep an eye on it.  Keep posting if you see anymore anomalous situations.

I think it was base 17. We killed the town but the 10 goons did not capture the base. Had to log right after so don't know if the Axis ever got it or not.
Just a FYI..

Whew!  I thought I was the only one and didn't want to risk whine of the week.  But...

Last night I caught a Hurri at d300 with my A5 (Dead six, level, all 4 20mm and the MG were set for convergence at 300, had full ammo and tracers were ON).  He was more or less straight and level as was I.  I set the dot on him and fired a short burst... nothing.  He didn't even react, pilot wound?  So I fired a long burst working it up a little to be sure the stream would intersect his path.  (Have I mentioned we both had our wings level?)  Nothing.   The Hurri then did kind of a slow climbing turn to the left as if he had no idea anyone was on his tail.

Then a Spit arrived and shot me down...

Now I admit that my gunnery is less than perfect... but it is not level flight at convergence miss bad.

What really gets me about the whole thing is it was if he didn't know or didn't care if I was there.  A pilot wound would explain that but not the lack of even a hit sprite.

Stuff happens I guess.

308 had seven guys on last night down South, mostly flying Mossies.  No weirdness reported, and kills/deaths seemed normal to us.  FWIW

People seemed to have no trouble killing me repeatedly.

I even managed to kill someone else.

My only gripe is that frigging cloud that drops my frame rate from 60 to 14.  It follows me all over the map.  I feel like the Li'l Abner character.

There was major wierdness last night.  I had no problem getting kills, but I saw some really odd shat going on.  2.4k laser guns on a certain plane.  I filmed the mossie that rocketed to 20k plus in less than 2 seconds, but it is on my home/modem computer.  If anybody is interested I will try to post it.  The mossie was fuzeman if I remember from the film.  Fuze you know what happened?

That fricking cloud was amazing.  I sit pegged at 120 fps all the time, when I got near that cloud it dropped to 50 and less, and I didnt have a problem in the eastern front setup either.  This setup needs to be lost.  Tunisia is fun, but something is really wrong/was really wrong with it.

no net status problems here either.

Oldman, that's the newest AH weapon; the scent-seeking, frame-rate-killing pall of death.  If you get down real low and hide in a cloud of your own flatulence, you can cause it to loose orfarctory lock and move on.  Careful, though...it has a whine-seeking back up detection and tracking system:D.

S!

Hmmmm.... that's funny, I've been experiencing some of the best shooting of my time online in AH...  :)

I have flown nothing but A5's and found I was ripping up people with 1/2 sec bursts on max deflection shots.  This was on the weekend, so maybe the connex was better then.

Yeah the hurri and 202 have been bringing out the best in my shooting skills as well.  The issues have not been 'lag' they have been just plain wierdness.

Saw something cool and not weird last night.  I dropped a monster ltv4 he shell on a panzer, and it bounced about 1k in the air and landed about 1k from the panzer.  I know this is a hijack, but if I can blow up a panzer with one pass and my hizooka, how on earth does a 100mm (or whatever it is) he bounce?

Vh at base 10

Tried to spawn gv to save base only to roll downhill, flip and die

yes, clouds are real pretty but my rock solid 85 fps goes into the low 30's...

Sheesh, you guys think you got it bad? I guess it's high time to throw some new stuff into this puter, my AVERAGE framerate is 30, with those clouds dropping it to 9 or 10, and at times as low as 3! Basically unplayable... I can keep up with fr's at 12 or 15, but 3 just makes me a target (like I'm anything more than that anyway, lol). Time to shell out some green I guess. I should take this to another topic, but any suggestions for a cheap ($50-80) vid card? I'm currently running an old 16 meg nvidia. Anything would be better, lol, and low fr is getting on my nerves now. As far as weird stuff, I saw too much to bother with listing, some was undoubtedly on my end, but some was just ODD. Like the 190 that traveled at warp factor 9 onto my 6 and killed me with one ping. No enemy in vis, 2 other squaddies will attest to that, no enemy on dar... just boom out of the blue, the 190 decloaked and hit me with a freakin sidewinder or something, lol!
