IL2 Upgrade due Monday....
« on: June 06, 2002, 12:40:22 PM »
....The only better news I could think of would be that the  AH update would be out  tommorrow.

Anyone interested in IL2 and who does not have the leaked version of the upgrade is in for a treat.

Improved visual damage, fires will  eventually cause the plane to blow up, Pilot kills back, including to AI pilots, I have seen several  AI crash with minimal damage.

RATA....sounds like an evil lawnmower on startup and will kill ya in a minute on takeoff if you are not careful. (I16 flyable)

109e flyable and some 1940/41 Migs for them to shoot.

Sure wish they had at least a twin engined bomber, I need a fix.

Disclaimer: The above is simply relaying info to any here who may be interested, not an invitation for comparisons of any aspect of either AH or IL2.

Supposedly the final version is going to have some new things in it the leaked one didn't have.

I know for one, the I16's engine will cut out under negative Gs.

I've been playing with the leaked 1.1 patch, and the I-16 is a lot of fun in it.

oh yeah it is

the 109e series in the leaked patch is fun as hell too. Rolls much better then ahs emil.

mk 103s on an the a8

I cant wait till this game gets the the up coming additions.

If it was massive multi player youd never see me here again  :)

I have a hard time finding good coop missions. Especially if I just pop into HL for a quick one. DF servers bore me more mostly.

IL-2 guys

from what range do you shoot?

Is the distance displayed in meters or feet?

Does .50 = 500 meters/feet? 1.3 = 1,300 meters/feet?

Is there a way to change meters to feet or vise versa?

Sorry if these are dumb question.

TIA

The entire system is metric, so I suppose the icons are metric.. although I may be wrong.

When do I open fire? Well, if the guy is turning.. it's easy to get a good lead and put some bullets into him from pretty far away.. I'd say 300-500 meters. I use light MGs (.303, 7.92mm) to hit planes further out and save my cannons for when they are really close.

I usually fly with no icons, unless it's a DF server and icons are enabled... so I can't really be much help of how far.. I just do like they did in the real war.. get 'em to full your whole windscreen, then let the bullets fly.

Working on an I-16 skin right now that is painted kind of like a Duff beer can from the Simpsons.

0.50 in Il-2 = 500 m = 1640 ft = 546 yards = 546 in AH

thanks, that helps

so you would fire under 0.50 or closer?

Seems overshooting is easier in IL2 as the distance from 1.0 to .10 closes quick than in AH

Open fire when he fills your gun site. Everything else is a waist of ammo. (.3 or closer)

What Russian said.  I can get hits out to 0.50 or so.  Beyond that it's impossible to see if I'm hitting.  0.30 and less, rock and roll.

Rgr Grunherz, like that.

Yeah everything in Metric which, when added to the lack of Mustangs and Spitfires may account for the  fact that European prime time has almost double the players in Hyperlobby than U.S primetime, only about 180 players there now.

Dogfight servers are much like the main, close bases, fly anything, take off shooting but if you check them some have year restricted planes.

Wotan, if it were MMP it would bring the next generation computers to its knees, there is way too much going on for it to run smooth with large numbers in the same area.

Aces High has nothing to fear on that front.

If you play with bombs be sure to set delay there too, I blew myself up several times before I realized I had it set on 0.

I set convergance at 300 meters for cannon and mgs but without icons it is tough to judge distance so I usually open fire a second before I run into them.

Waiting for games is the biggest drawback and anyone with an hour to fly is surely better off with AH.

Eagler, sorry- I forget the icons go by those funky decimals.

But I can guarantee you, it's better to hold your fire on a plane that's level (atleast with your cannons) until he's fairly close to you. In other words, even if the dot isn't dead center on his plane, you still have a good amount of room to still hit him.

However, when he's in a turn- up to 500 meters is a pretty easy shot.

I got to a point with the I-16 skin that I wanna show it off. Not much- but I hope someone likes it besides me. :)
