Mighty 8th TOD What Happened?
« on: June 07, 2002, 10:57:57 PM »
Here's the story. I'm in a 17 with 11 other MAW 17's and numersous escorts. We're at 25k Level, following our waypoints. Leadflight IceMAW calls out Dots level 11. I see them. I man my guns. Next thing I know, Ice explodes. Several other bombers go as well. No damage. Just expoding 17's. Mind you, I still have yet to see a single enemy fighter, either physically, or Icon. I was within 700 yards of Ice, too. Nothing. NOTHING. My frame rate was at 71, and all I saw were tracers coming out of thin air!!

What were they flying, stealth fighters? Needless to say, I was blown out of the sky without ever firing a shot!

What a Disaster that ToD was.

Can someone tell me what the hell happened?

I'd really like this explained to me.

I told Ammo to make at least 3 groups and when he followed my orders it sounds like it exceeded the icon limit.  What is strange is that it seemed to happen to some players and the one next to them saw everything fine.

I'll add more targets and try and spread the action out for Frame 2 and that should help it.

Its all skernsk's fault:)

But, i was one that saw everything. It was a hurrendous fight up there that ended on the deck for the escorts.

Don't get too discouraged guys.  MAG-33 air started with 3 groups of 4 pilots, 1 min apart, then formed up.  within the first 10 min, FW190s at 25-28k jumped us.  We lost 1/2 our group.  Sometimes you die early in a TOD frame, thats the breaks.

My rule of thumb is if there are more than 16 of us, we break up into two groups to prevent the plane visibility limitation.

It happens every time we have buffs with escort being attacked by fighters.  I was hoping that we wouldnt have that big of a problem this time because of Skernsk's orders to split the groups up, but I guess that wasnt the case.  Maybe we need to stop planning buff raids with escorts.  :(

I don't mind dying early in a fight BUT I would prefer to be able to SEE who's killing me.

Also, I've never seen 8 17's simplt explode in rapid succession.

Unless the 109's had AIM-9s on 'em, this just does not make sense.

I was really looking forward to this TOD, and it was a huge disappointment.

Sorry guys. I know you work very hard on these things and I appreciate it, but I'm just aggravated.

It is nice to see the Allieds were having problems also.  We spotted the B-17s but then the 47s were on us very fast.

My job was to tangle with the escort and keep them busy! Whoa Boy!!  Them P-47s were mean and they were out to play!  I had all sorts of problems and the 47s took a toll on the squad.  Im am glad to see we caused some damage also among the escort.

My connection were good and little warping.  I was able to kill a 47 at about 2000 feet, but I lost control surface skimming with another and plowed my 190 into the ground!   :)  I still dont know which squad we danced with but they did watch out for each other.

Overall I had a great time!  :)

Rock:  No ya wouldn't.

Swagger just watched my film of the battle it looks like you was part of the 110's/190's that engaged us the 56th, one hell of a fight, you did your job well you kept us busy.

An extra to Nifty, Makarov9 (both part of the 332nd?) you guys did not let go and where a right royal pain:). It was a fun night/morning and well worth getting up at 0330hrs for.

The bomber boys did a great job big to them, we went in hard to try and keep the enemy off you. But where gutted that we lost some bombers before we could tangle with the enemy fighters, they beat us to the punch so to speak:(.

Apart from a little lag it was a great TOD from my point of view and fun to be part of.

to the CM's as well.

I was part of the Mongrel group slated to go right for the buffs, and quickly found myself alone in the buff stream.  I can tell you, it was very interesting listening to the other Mongrels fight the P-47s...it sounded like quite a battle.  It was also interesting being alone among so many enemy bombers.

The buffs I attacked all shot at me, so I know I wasn't invisible to them.  I was even receiving some light-pings at D1.9 in front of some buffs.  It's kind of scary being alone below a big buff formation and have about five or six of them fire at you with who knows how many guns.   :-)

Good job, everyone.  :)
