Is this current in the MA? If you stay below 500 feet AGL the dar bar doesn't show? I know in the CT this is the case until the airfield dar picks you up.

Can say first hand that there is no dar bar even when you're attacking the field if you stay under 500' agl. That's an important point too, nothing draws folks like a big red bar.

Excitement is seeing a stream of Tiffies, 51's and 38's at sea level under Dar.

Excitement is bursting into the stream from behind in your La7 and watching two light up the morning sky.

Excitement is seeing SC-Sp00k killed AK ****

Fear is knowing that the other 30 guys can be nothing other than all AK.

Fear is checking your 6 to see 5 peel off to chase you down.

Excitement is watching your wing tear off and flames enshroud your fuselage as the ocean rushes up to meet you.

Revvin - actually, I for one pay close attention to those flashing airfields on the map. If I see one of ours under attack, I'll rush to the field gun or get an Ostwind in attempt to thwart the vulching. I hate gangbang/vulch smashdowns, as you know. I want the Chess match, not the pub brawl. ;) What I really like is to shoot down N1Ks and LA7s who have come for no other reason than to vulch. The glorious feeling as I see the yellow flash which tells me that one of my 37mm rounds has made contact :D:D:D - almost as good as....   well, almost!

NOE missions are the BEST !!!

That is where you get the real feeling of speed, especially if running NOE over terrain. The anticipation as you approach the target really gets the adrenaline flowing.

110s andf 38s are the best. They can switch from a serious JABO to a very effective CAP platform with ease.

If flying under 500ft AGL, there will be NO bar dar, and the field will not start blinking until you are within the 12 mile limit of a field.

I believe that here will be some serious NOE missions with the AKs new map (canyons are awesome) which is why I can't wait to fly it.

The only problem that I can see with the new map is that the AKs know all the nooks and crannys. :D

I was wondering, is there anyway to download and look at this map now?

Define Chaos:

When two opposing missions, each playing the sneak attack card, smack into each other over the water.

The Marine Air Wing has been pulling sneak and grabs since the new 500' dar bar went into effect.

Last week, 15 planes from our mission ran into 20 planes from a Bish mission.

Exact Quote from Mission CO:

"I was wondering when this was gonna happen"

Still fun as hell.

I agree, NOE missions are great, both flying a sneak mission and catching one coming in.   And AKIron is right usually it only takes one plane to bust up an attack.  Couple of weeks ago I suprised the AK's on a NOE mission.  I think it was A7 on the island map.  I happened to scan the map after a sortie and saw A7 flashing and a single dot near the base.  I took up a La7 to go hunting, turned out the dot was a high buff going someplace else, so I dropped down to about 25ft agl and flew out from the base to see if anything else was around.  Shortly thereafter I saw a dot out in the distance, as I got closer the the one dot turned into two dots, then three, until I think there were 5 or 6 dots.   For me there is nothing that gets the blood pumping faster than finding an NOE mission.  I got on the radio and broadcasted the incoming raid and picked my first target.   First icon I picked up on was a 110, and as I moved in on the 110, the C47 icon popped up and I headed straight for it.  He tried to evade but I think I got him on the second pass, and then they got me, either Nuttz or AKCurly was flying the goon I think.  If I remember right they were all flying 110's on that mission.   Eventually I got them all but only after they shot me down about 2 or 3 times they made me work for it.  I remember when I first came up on them I thought to myself ,  hehe, 110's, this is going to fun and easy.  Well I tell you what, it was definitely fun Ak's  but by no measure was it easy.   Help showed up after I got them all except for AKWarp, but I chased him down as he tried to leave the area.

Flying NOE mission are a blast also, I don't even mind dying, there's just a rush for me flying 400mph 50ft off the ground with 4 or 5 planes chasing you, as you evade and barrel roll, twist and turn, guys killshooting each other trying to get you, running into trees, I think I got something like 4 kills on one sortie from everybody dying trying to get me.  Yea, eventually the wep runs out or I make a mistake and they get me, but damn its a blast.

Heh yeah NOE raids are a nice diversion.  Nothing like the tension of closing on target at 350mph IAS and 50ft AGL!

"Dr. Stranglelove" was on the telly the other afternoon.  Watching that B52 make its low level approach to target made me want to go fly a NOE raid.

Now every time I'm doing it I'm going to be hearing in my head Slim Pickens as Maj. Kong:

"One things for damn sure, flying this low they might harpoon us, but they sure as heck ain't gonna pick us up on no radar!"

I like and dislike em at the same time...

Yes they are a nice change in the MA which is for the good!

No cuz by the time you see the base flashing someone HAS to auger if the attack is to be thwarted.  I've auged perk rides to stop a capture.

1 guy can stop most NOE raids, but... 99% of the guys won't suicide to get there in time.

Remember NOE raiders!! it only takes one goon to take it!!

I also feel that an airbase can be captured by killing 3 acks and leveling a tiny hamlet... is BS +)

SKurj

I haven't augered a perk ride, but I've jumped out of everything else. :)  Actually, I wish we could keep two versions of the map.  As I fly into Indian country, I usually have the map zoomed quite a bit - thus, flashing icons frequently are hidden!  I wish there was a way to flip to an unzoomed map!

Concerning the "BS" remark, IMO, any country unwilling to defend its airfields deserves to lose them.

Question and suggestion:

Question: I've heard the base will start flashing when a con is 12 miles out, does it matter what alt that con is at?  It would be nice if the alert range was cone shaped, that is at a real low alt maybe the flashing starts when you're only 2 miles out but at a high alt the flashing starts at 20 miles out.

Suggestion:  put some target at the field that once destroyed the flashing stops.  Maybe something hard to hit like an antena, once destroyed the field can't radio (flash) for help.

I love a well executed NOE mission and really think those flying the mission should have a bit more advantage after putting in the effort to stay undetected.
