Seeing as how the fighters are having a field day on my prettythang this tour, I'd like to share some insight that will be old hat to you vets, but to the new Buff drivers, it is invaluable.
1) When under attack, and sitting in a gunners spot, use your rudders to steer the plane and make yourself a harder target. If you don't have rudders, use your keyboard set rudder keys.
2) As tempting as it is, don't shoot straight for the fighters Prop or centerline. (Unless thats the only shot you have from a waist gun) If at all possible, concentrate all fire on one of the attackers wings. They come off much easier than trying to kill his engine. Even if you knock off an aileron, you'll survive the attack.
3) Use F3 zoomed all the way out whenever possible. Only switch to a gun view when a bog is 3k or less and closing.
Situational awarness is the key.
4) If in a group, be sure to advise others in your flight when going on scope so they can assist you with SA.
5) If alone, do NOT sit on the scope waiting for your target to comes into your crosshairs. Check your sight, go estimate your time to target, go back to F3, check for bogs, if none, go back to scope. Repeat until ordinance is away. If a bog is in on you, you must decide whether to take the hit to drop on target, or defend yourself, and hope you survive for a second pass.
Some or all of this info may become obsolete when 1.10 comes out, but until then, use this information.
Now, I'm not the Guru of Buffs. I learned these tactics from PropMAW and BD5Pilot.
If they help 1 bomber pilot shoot down one fighter...my work is done.
Good Luck!
