I read this article today in the SF Chronicle:
Subaru rabbit ad makes activists hopping madThis is just stupid. Protesting over rabbits, can a person get any shollower? This is the epitome of the horrendous "Save it because its cute, let it dies if it ain't" mentality of too meny of the animal rights activists (and I know how most of you feel about them already). Rabbits breed like, well, rabbits. They
ARE food. That is their fucntion in the ecosystem, breeding is their method of surviving despite being food.
I can uderstand when people go to great lengths to save a dog or a cat, as in the $50,000 dog rescue from the ship near Hawaii a few months ago, because they are useful to humans and have a long tradition as working animals and companion animals. I might not agree with the resouces used, but I can understand it. But rabbits? They're stupid, untrainable food items that are about as far from endangered as an animal can be. Who cares if little Sandy lets her pet rabbit go because she can't keep it anymore and it goes off to be coyote/bobcat/bird food? At least let little Sandy
think her rabbit is out there hopping free in a nice warm green field instead of telling her point blank that she just killed her rabbit by the Bobcat execution method. It doesn't matter a bit that the rabbit got eaten, in fact it was good that it did.
We need to protect the key animals in the ecosystem, without caring whether they are cute or not. That's just a stupid lithmus test to use.
These people are whacked.
