Best to start to learn guitar on a steel strung acoustic.  If you can play an acoustic then you can play any electric guitar.

The Epiphone Gibson range are a good value for money guitar and sound rich, keep in tune and have a wonderful feel to them.  I don't know how much they cost in the states, but in the UK they start from around £200 - £800.

That Kendrick is a beauuuuutifull amp, SirLoin! I've played one at a studio in Austin, Tx, and LOVED it :)
