« on: June 18, 2002, 08:17:18 AM »
Am I right if there has been no information about any new GV or ships in 1.10 ?

Just checking :)

( I bet if any of HTC read this they think something like " Oh my good!!! Here we give them LOTS of new planes and strat and game improvements in the next release, but those darn demanding customers is NEVER satisfied, no matter what  !!!!!!"

 :p

But I just had to ask

I dont think you should laugh of Uboats in AH, because I believe I heard something about HiTech`s dad serving in a sub, and he had some plans about implenting it, at least so said the rumors about one and a half year ago.:)
(Please correct me if I`m wrong)

There also was some rumors about bridges and rivers for the PT boat to drive up, I wonder how the progress of this is ? ;)

SABRE: You mentioned the naval element earlier, and going along with that, the ground combat elements.  It’s an air combat sim, but what kind of future expansions and additions are you planning for the naval and ground warfare elements of Aces High?

HITECH: Naval aspects?  The biggest change I will be doing will be submarines in the next year.

SABRE: Wow! That is exciting!

HITECH: Submarines will basically use a fleet-type positioning system with the ability that, when the fleet of submarines, the wolfpack or whatever arrives [at the waypoint], you’ll be able to do the detailed control of it.  You’ll get to aim the torpedo.  You get to do all the fun stuff on the submarine; but the fact of the matter is, for a submarine to travel thirty miles at night is an immense amount of time.  Nobody wants to spend that amount of time controlling a submarine.  So what you’ll do is you’ll set down a waypoint [on the map] for the submarines, to get them into position to intercept a fleet, where you think they’re coming in.  As they come into range, suddenly you get to jump into the simulation, the detailed fun part of the submarine element.  That’s how the submarines will work.

I asked HT a few days ago whether they had been working on a new GV and confirmed that they have been working on a new GV, however it was unlikely it will be ready in time for ver 1.10.  The way he talked about it sounded like it was a rather complex GV so hopefully it could be a ship or sub?  :)  I'd love a T-34, Sherman or Pnzr V though! :)

I'd like to see a T-34 also, but only because it would make for more interesting scenarios instead of having PzIVs on both sides.  It would NOT, I say again would NOT, dominate the PzIVH.

Simply put, the 7.5cm KwK L48 on the PzIVH could penetrate the T-34's armor at all battlefield ranges.  That was why the Germans introduced that gun, after all.  The T-34's armor was only impenetrable in the mid-41 to early-42 period, when most German tanks had 3.7cm, 5cm L42, or 7.5cm L24.  Basically, due to the total ass-kicking the Russians got in 1941, even though they managed to just barely stop the Germans in the end, they concentrated on production pure and simple.  They were losing so many troops that the need for replacements meant quantity, not quality.  The only design changes allowed were those that increased production efficiency, not combat power.  So Russian tank design stood still for the 1st 1/2 of the war on the Eastern Front.  Meanwhile, the Germans saw they had a problem and made changes to deal with it.

On the offensive side of things, the T-34/76's gun could penetrate the PzIVH, but not at will like it could vs. the 1941-vintage models of the PzIV.  The 85mm gun that came out later, however, had no problem.  So if AH gets a T-34/76, it won't be able to kill the PzIVH as far away as the PzIVH can kill it, while if AH gets a T-34/85, they can both kill each other at any battlefield range.  So basically, it's a wash at best on this.

However, there are other factors to consider.  The Russians viewed their tanks primarily as infantry support or for shooting up soft targets in the enemy rear after penetrating the lines.  So normally they carried 2 HE rounds per AP round.  Thus, even if HTC provides varying ratios like it does for the PzIVH, I'd still expect the PzIVH to carry more AP than the T-34 could even at its max setting.

Finally, don't forget the T-34/76 only had a 2-man turret.  Because of this, the tank commander was also the gunner.  And he had a big hatch that opened forward and stood vertically, so he couldn't see ahead very well from the unbuttoned position.  Thus, if it was up to me, I'd model the T-34/76 in AH without any turret hatch postion, or at best totally block off the forward view therefrom with a solid hatch cover.  Either way, it would be much harder, if not impossible, for a player in a T-34/76 to spot an nme from the turret hatch and then drop down to the gun to shoot at it.

So basically, the only unambiguous advantage any type of T-34 would have over the PzIVH would be higher speed.  However, apparently the T-34 was MUCH noisier than other tanks, due to the design of its tracks.  So other players should hear it from a greater distance than they can a PzIVH.

I wish we could have larger crews than 1 gunner, a fully manned PT boat would be a fun mission for 3 or 4 guys.  HAving a guy manning the machine guns while you firing you tank main gun be handy etc etc

I believe that a Sherman is an natural choise to be included in AH, and thinking of the huge numbers prodused of T-34, it simply has to be added (Sometime).

But I doubt that we will get any of those in 1.10

Since 1.10 is going to be a Pacific oriented release, I think we perhaps could wish for a boat or so, perhaps a cruiser or a perked battleship :p

HEY!!!, I can hope cant I :D
