I'm giving WW2OL another shot, but....
« on: June 18, 2002, 11:18:03 AM »
I can't seem to get my joystick and pedals calibrated correctly using the 1.64 keymapper screen. I end up always going around in circles like a top when I try to takeoff.

Could someone who is familiar with this please explain exactly how to calibrate a Cougar and a CH Pro Pedals inside of the keymapper?

Thanks!

Dumb question... Are you remembering to lock your tail wheel?  IIRC that was a must in WWIIOL

Is there another free trial or something coming up for WWIIOL?  I wouldn't mind giving it another chance if I don't have to pony up a month's fee.

Yep, I lock my tailwheel, but after about 300 yds I start going off onto the grass, and then it's curtains from there.

Back to my main question...what is the precise way to calibrate inside of the key mapper?

banana are you using the rudder or wheel brakes to steer while rolling? I know it sounds stupid but I use taps on the wheel brakes to help keep my plane straight on takeoff. For some reason or another the rudder dosen't do jack for me unless I'm in the air.

I can't seem to calibrate anything in ww2ol, all that calibrate screen seems to do for me is allow me to set a control curve...

but my controls work fine

You can maually map axis...plus and minus and invert to any joystick axis....click on JOYSTICK...then select the command you want to map, clilck it till old input is gone..and only the light colored bar is around the selction point..NOT the yellow..then go to the axis + and - selections and click on what you want....

Pedals are ZROT..- for left and + for right
Throttle is Z Axis...come to the forums for more info. Someone has a really great site for keymapping...But taking off..lock the tail wheel..RPM to Max..that is the ' key for default..use the brakes..z or c or your pedals to compensate for torque and P Force.

hope this helps

I did that very same thing hardcase with no avail.  Then, suddenly the 2nd or 3rd time I opened WWIIOL and attempted the keymapper, it recognized a joystick connection.  Strange.

banana are you going as the traditional "banana" as your game ID?  If so, I'd love to hook up some time and get some AH pile-its together and blow stuff up.

Last time I tried WWIIOL, was about 3 months ago (I quickly discovered it does NOT run on a PIII500 :D). I found that it was a PAIN to setup the joystick buttons (especialy the diagonal axis on the coolie-hat) So, I did it the old beta way (edited the joystick.cfg file manually) it's easier than it sounds.

Hardcase, it's just a little confusing to me, because unlike AH's joystick calibration app, you can't see the results of your calibration. I mean why isn't there a button that says "Calibrate"?

I've clicked on the "joystick" tab, then clicked "reset calibration", then moved my Cougar's axis' around, ditto for my CH pro pedals. And for some reason I have to check the "invert axis" box for the pro pedals, otherwise they work backwards.  Thanks for the tapping toe brakes tip, I'll try that today.

Hey Oct, not sure what callsign I'm going to get. My first one was "banana24" because plain old banana was taken. I'm going to try to get banana, but I may have to settle for some variation.

If I get it figured out and get online, I'll let you know and maybe we can hook up.
