Removing the Detents on your Cougar's Throttle
« on: June 19, 2002, 02:00:30 PM »
I finally got up the nerve to give it a try. It was ridiculously easy to accomplish, and took me about 5 minutes.

1. Hang the Throttle upsidedown suspended by the base between two towers of books or boxes.

2. Remove the 8 screws on the bottom of the throttle base.

3. Remove the throttle's bottom cover and flip it over.

4. Remove the 2" metal plate on the underside of the bottom cover by removing the two phillips screws. It's the only thing on the uderside of the bottom cover, so you can't miss it.

5. Place the plate, two screws, and two springs into a sandwich bag.

6. Re-install bottom cover onto throttle base using the 8 screws you took off in step 2.

Voila! No more clicking, clacking detents! :)

Hmmm...That is easy!  I guess I just thought there'd be more to it.  I was under the impression you could change where the detents are, or remove one but leave the other in place.  Doesn't sound like that's the case, though.  I'll have to open mine up and take a closer look.  Unless you're using them to simulate WEP or afterburner, the detents are just an annoyance.

Sabre, you actually can move the detents to different locations. I just chose to get rid of mine completely. Here's the link to the "How to" thread.
