In the UK we pay the equivalent of $6 a gallon!
Back in the 1970's, when I was deployed to Europe, we would bounce from airport to airport supporting the U.S. 6th Fleet. Rather than pay the outrageous gasoline prices, we simply carried around three 5 gallon Jerry cans, which we filled every time we refueled our aircraft. So, we always had an ample supply of 100-130 avgas for our rental cars. Since we often staged out of civilian airports, our fuel bill went right on the DOD credit card.

I believe that at that time, avgas was less expensive than pump gasoline. Therefore, our Disbursement Officer though that it was sound cost saving. We never asked the rental car companies what they thought about us running their Fiats, Renaults and Alfa Romeos on high octane aviation fuel. However, they did run very well, especially after we advanced the ignition timing a bit.
Back in the States, it was common for 115-145 avgas to find its way into our personal vehicles, such as my TVR 2500M and motorcycles. Usually we grabbed a few gallons of "contaminated" fuel from the de-fueling bowser before it was delivered for recycling.
