Arafat is similiar in power to that of the Queen of England. Nothing but a figurehead, with no control over anything that the Hammas does.

What he says is meaningless, to both sides of the conflict.

The terrorists consider him to be a pacifist. When the Israli's told fishface they'd level his headquarters and isolate him if the bombings don't stop, Hammas and the other splinter groups said "fediddlein great! we don't have to shut him up, the jews will do it for us!! Bomb the hell outta the jews!!"

anything falling outta any palestininas face that remotely sounds like 'peace' instantly brands the utterer 'traitor to palestine' in the eyes of the terrorists.

terrorists don't want peace, they want dead jews. it's their job.

terrorists enjoy making martyrs. they consider it a perk fer killin a few jews.

one sides terrorist is the other sides freedom fighter. the average palestinian has no sympathy for some rich jew gettin her babies blown off a bus... not when a jewish tank is parked on what used to be his home and family, not when HIS big crime in life was to be doin nothin more than LIVING THERE when this toejam started.

jews enjoy crushing palestinan homes and grabbing 'free unoccupied land' in the wake of their reprisals. For every dead israli they get a free housing project for 1,000 jews next year. You can't convince me somebody in israels senior governement ain't playing the number game.. it's a war, they expect losses... and love profit. win-win deal for them, world opinion, lotsa free land, fewer 'terrorists' and all for the price of a few hundred jews...

Look at Afganistan, do they look ready/organized/civilized enough to govern themselves??? With the might of the US military & others sitting on the street corners maybe, Time will tell there ...

Dunno if the pals are even as civilized as the afgans when it comes to self control/government - not until the radicals have been eliminated. As stated before, some don't want peace as their meaning of/for life would disappear then..
