Anyone here a runner?
« on: June 20, 2002, 03:42:17 PM »
I've been running for about two years now.  Have run quite a few 5k races.  Was injured a few months back training for a half-marathon.  Longest run I have done is 14 miles.

I ran cross country in high school - I wasn't very good at it though... don't have the build of a distance runner. :)

I've been running ever since I was in high school. These days I run about 2 miles 1,2 days a week for a good strong heart. On my gym workout days (4xweek), I only run 1 mile before hitting the weights (4 laps round average track) to warmup. Sometimes I alternate and do 1 mile then up and down this big hill (bout 75% of a mile) or I go for the glory and to hit 4 miles. I dont hit the weights on those days anymore though. Its too hard on the body at 30 throughout a long period of time (joints will give).

Basically I excersise almost every day.

Muuhahaha!!!

:D

Trying to get back to my college days standard when I ran 5 miles M,W,F and 10 on T,TH.  Longest run I ever did was about 27 miles or so.  I am trying to get back into long distance shape as I would like to run in a marathon.

Runner here, and former cross-country coach. I was a bit of a road racer, having run distances from 2 miles to marathon. Picked up running at the age of 30, very quickly became addicted. Used to train 80 miles a week during peak training, averaged 3,600 miles a year.

Yeah, I'm a runner. ;)

I developed a rather nasty heel spur on right at the base of my heel directly under my Achilles tendon. As you might guess, that, coupled with my age (40), has ended my racing career.

Times:

5K -> 15:33
8K -> 27:40
10k -> 33:10
1/2 marathon -> 1:14:14
marathon -> 2:43:44

Ran the 100th Boston- what a sight!

I was never the best, but I was lucky enough to be competitive.

I wish I could run.... guess I'm just not cut out for it.  Doesn't matter if I run a mile or 5 miles I always feel like I've been run over by a Mack truck when I'm done.  I'll push myself for weeks or even months at a time.. but eventually I'll give up and work harder in the wieghtroom or on a rower or bike or something.

Anyone know why this could be?  I mean.. I actually enjoy running to an extent.  I'm 35 now and it's exactly the same as when I was in High School.  Coach would push us (and I did it just to stay on the team)... however on most occasions I'd find myself hyperventilating while trying to drive home (just try driving when that happens), still happens unless I run at a snails pace.  I can work myself silly in the weightroom or walk for 10 miles at a fast pace with a ruck... but running just seems to really fek me up.
