It hit the germans hand which was even to or behind the germans leg which was behind the goal line ....

I dont think that it was a goal - but I agree that the german player hit the ball with his arm.

So it had to be a penalty for the USA and a red card for the german player.

Good for Germany that the other US-player attacked the goalkeeper - so it was not seen by the referee.

But this is one of the worst german games I have ever seen. They are defending only.

And this tactic is not very good - just look what happened to Italy against S.Korea or Germany a few games ago against Ireland: They got a goal in the last minutes of the game.

Offensive is still the best defense - and this german team is obviously not able to do so.

USA!!! WTFG on the quarters. made it farther than Argentina, France and Portugal to name a few. Beat out our arch rival in Mexico, made it as far as England. We're not on terms with the giants yet, but we're getting there. Watch out in 2006. USA and England are gonna be very tough.

btw, that was NOT a penalty. The ball clearly played the player and not vice versa. He never moved his arm. Just fantastic luck on the German's part.

If you want to complain about a bad call... Donovan was very much onside in the 2nd minute when he was going to walk in alone on Kahn. (not the time where he actually knocked the ball past Kahn, but the previous one.)

Overall, what a game the US played. They were unlucky that Sanneh was wide late in the game, and that Berhalter's shot did bounce off the man covering the post. Game could have easily been 2-2 (Klose hit the post in the 35th min, or thereabouts). Kahn came up big twice on Donovan shots (think Leverkusen is ready to bring Landon back to the Bundesliga now? ) Wow, the first one was wonderful, nutmeg on Hamann, then carrying to the top of the box for a nicely struck left foot that took a world class save from Kahn. Also give Jeremies credit for blocking Mathis' shot in the 85th minute, that had Kahn beat easily. to the German defense!

What I really enjoyed most about the game were the players/coaches congratulating each other after the game. Fantastic sportsmanship on both sides of the ball.

While I disagree that the ball striking the outstretched arm of the German defender was not a penalty, I think referee Dallas did a much better job than the ref for the Mexico game. It was nice to watch a football match and not a wrestling match.
