OK so I finally programmed my cougar to make the Ant rotary work the clipboard zoom. When I download it it works in AH but none of the buttons I mapped to joystick work any more. In fact when I first tried it the stick went AWOL and froze the PC. Had to reboot and unplug/plug in the stick again. Cougar reported the file was OK.

Does this mean it is not possible to map one or two functions only to the Cougar and load them up for use along side the stick mapping in Aces High? It seems so. So that means ALL the buttons and stick mapping has to be programmed into the Cougar or not at all. Is this the Windows/ Cougar mode difference? If so this stick is much more of a faff than I thought.

I like the feel of the stick and all the buttons, but I am a busy man with young kids. I really want to play Aces High in my free time not fa**y about with this stick!

I know there are ready made programmes, but none of them resemble what I want to do. In fact the stick mapping within the game plus a few keystrokes via a shift function are all I want to do.

Rant rave. Once I work it out it'll be fine. I just hadn't appreciated the "all programmed or all within the game" thing.  Also the axis settings are much easier within the game and give better results (according to the BBS).

CH pedals are great though. Now THEY just worked!

FOGOLD, I'm pretty certain you should be able to do both. At least that's what I'm doing.

AH allows you to program Direct-X buttons directly from inside AH. So that means that in the FOXY programming app, you need to designate those buttons that you'd rather program directly in AH as Direct-X buttons.

I can't rember the syntax offhand, but it's probably something like:

Set S3 as DX4 (which will designate button S3 as Direct-X button 4).

Then when you've done that inside of FOXY, you can go right into AH in the stick mapper and program those Direct-X buttons.

This is how I setup my views in AH on my Cougar. In FOXY, I designated hat 3 to be the POV hat #1, then I went into AH and programmed POV hat #1 with 8 views.

Hope this makes sense. Here's a link to Cougar World that has a whole bunch of info on programming the Cougar.

Thanks banana ( gee, that takes a bit of saying, lol).
Sorry if I seem a bit exasperated, I just can't seem to get my head round it all. I'll try what you say. It would certainly be a lot more flexible to mix and match. I kinda thought you had to have either axes as DirectX or programmed or Buttons as DirectX or programmed and couldn't have some axes as direct x and some as cougar programmed and that was my problem.

Thanks again.

np FOGOLD, glad to help. :)

I think you'd be correct about "either or" except that the FOXY program allows you, as part of the programming, to set some buttons as "direct-X" buttons, so that when you load that profile into the Cougar, those particular buttons report to the AH software "Hey, I'm direct X button 4". Then the AH software responds "Great, nice to meet you. Go to the stick mapper and get yourself assigned to a function".

At least that's how I imagine the conversation goes! ;)
