Interested in a Cougar with modified CH Pro Pedals?
« on: June 25, 2002, 12:39:12 PM »
I've got a new Cougar HOTAS with new CH Pro Pedals that have been rewired so that both the rudder and toe brake axes are recognized by the Cougar.  Both the Cougar and the CH Pro Pedals are in mint condition and have been used only to fly AH for 10-15 hours.  I love the Cougar and its programmability is excellent, but the springs are just too heavy for me.  It has destroyed my ability to dogfight in AH, which was pretty limited in the first place :)

If anyone is looking for a Cougar with custom rudder pedals, drop me a line and we can try to work out a deal.  If you happen to be in the Austin area, you can stop by and try out the Cougar and pedals.

Just curious but what stick setup did you move from when you got the Cougar? I went from an F-16 FLCS/TQS/RCS setup to the Cougar with my RCS. I noticed a change but it was mainly because of the previous having been a plastic handle. I can tell a difference in the 22lb. springs that my buddy moved from his F-22 into his Cougar and the stock 18lb. springs still in my Cougar.

Good Luck selling your Cougar.

I have used both a CH Fighterstick and a Saitek X36.  Both of those sticks have considerably weaker springs than the Cougar, although neither can hold a candle to it in terms of quality or programmability (in my opinion).  I really do like the Cougar, but the spring tension limits my ability to make quick, accurate, short throws with the stick.  I thought I had adapted to the increased spring strength, but I was wrong.

In any case, it was almost worth the money just to experiment with programming the thing!

I have to aggree with you. After nearly a month with the thing I think I just have to say I dont like the tension. It makes it too hard to have fine control arround the middle. I will keep it though and wait till TM releases a lighter spring set for it..

Pongo try TM for a set of F-22 Springs. I doubt they have any at all now but they might be able to turn you on to a distributor that would have a similar type. Also check the forums over at Cougar World.

<-----Still wondering how a 22lb. spring has a lighter feel than an 18lb. spring! ;)

I thought the springs were adjustable. I have ordered the Courgar HOSTAS. From what I'm reading it sounds too complicated. Is there a good book that comes with it? I have read some of Foxes notes on the web sight. I'm not a programer. I'm running XP will that make a difference? Should I upgrade the BIOs and software when I get it?

The springs are adjustable. If you take them out and stretch them.
Mine works fine with xp and it does come with a very substantial book.
You really dont need to program it in AH. I use all the AH joystick set up stuff and none of the Cougar stuff...yet

SeaDog,

I would load all the latest updates.  If you go to Cougar World and follow the instructions, you should be OK.
