wasnt this a very dangerous plane to fly?

everything i have read has said that the thing was like a death trap on take off and landing

A lot of bad press highlighted the difficulties during the aircraft's introduction. Many of the initial crashes happened to new crews that were in the process of learning to fly an airplane that had much higher performance than any they'd flown before. Doolittle actually flew the B-26 to an intentional single engine landing on his very first flight in the airplane. The rumors practically made the B-26 to be unsafe even during a normal with two engines running. His intention was to demonstrate that it was not the widowmaker it had been made out to be. (Source: History Channel, B-26 Marauder). Its reputation among crews improved considerably once it was in action.
