Heh, I like this thread.
Gun control - I am a hunter and am against more controls of ownership. I am for fairly strict controls of rights to carry, though. I believe that for most crimes involving a perpetrator with a gun, the danger to innocents would be increased if you have a poorly-trained, gun-toting John Wayne-wannabe trying to ride to the rescue.
Abortion - I have been pro-choice, but I waver on this a bit.
Environment/animal rights- Attaching anywhere near the same rights to animals and/or plants as one does to humans is moronic. We live in a finite world that has limits, though, so there has to be some degree of conservation and environmental protection.
Isrealipalistiniancrap - Israel is as much to blame for the level of hatred between the two sides as the palestinians are. Opportunity for negotiated peace has probably been successfully sabotaged by hard liners on both sides and external elements (i.e. the people making this a holy war). A true, lasting peace in the region will likely not come until hard liners on both sides are out of power.
Capital punishment - Against it until the overriding factor of whether or not someone is spared the death penalty is not their guilt or innocence but rather the financial resources that they have available for a defense.
Religion - I am all for freedom of religion. State-sponsored religion scares me. Personally, I am agnostic.
Public education- My most liberal area. I believe if we are going to have public schools, then all kids should have as close to the same opportunities of education in those schools as possible. I'd like to see the funding system nationalized, with all federal, state and local education funds pooled and distributed equally per student to all public schools all over the country. Control of spending, curriculum, etc... is still left up to the local school boards/agencies. No vouchers. Accountability is good, as long as it is not in a form that limits the resources available for students.
Flag burning - Distasteful, but perfectly within someone's rights.
Affirmative action - Against. It was once needed to level a grossly disproportionate field of opportunities, but that time has passed, imo.
