Focke-Wulf 190 cannon switches.
« on: September 02, 2000, 01:26:00 PM »
Well this is a serious petition to HTC, no whining involved. (no, seriously  )

Fw190As in WWII had a manual switch that selected the weapons to be fired, so in a 4 cannon Fw190A8, you could fire inboard cannons only, outboard cannons only or both sets linked.

In Fw190A8 MK108 is next to useless to aim because the completely different ballistics of MG151 and MK108. Same happens with Fw190A5's MGFF. Fw190A8s had that switch so they could fire ONLY the Mk108, ONLY the MG151, or both linked. (and of course same with 4 MG151s).

It is a historical and realistic feature. Now, PLEASE, can you model it?...I dont find fair that 4 cannon birds such as n1k2 and F4UC can save ammo by firing only 2 of their cannons, when Fw190A8 can't do it because we have MGs (I like MGs, but I want that switch!)

Pretty please...Pyro?...something can be done?

Thanks in advance.

RAM,

I agree.
The 190 should either have a fix to allow Cannon selection or give us 30mm gunpods like this photo, so we can select em a different weapons.

I'd like to see gunpods myself, also 37mm gunpods like the Tank Buster Stuka had for killin them pesky Panzers with, I've never killed a Panzer in my 190, and I believe it's due to the small size of the 20mm and 30mm the 190 compared to the F4U-C's Hispanos.

Ram.
I asked for this online from pyro a long time ago. I thought at that time he said he would look into it.
I believe those are drop tanks in the picture.

Wardog...you are joking, right?...

Primary weapons on Fw190A are the cannons. ALL the cannons.

Secondary are the MGs.

No way to fire outboard cannons only, or inboard cannons only. The Real Fw190A had this feature (among many others  ).

Please, please pretty please include it!!!

Forgot its a 190

The 51 is setup for this when i load 6 .50s. For the most part i only take 4 .50s up to stay light. I do load 6 .50s if we are intercepting b17s or b26s..

Dog out.......

I agree, specially with 30mm settings it would be highly needed.
One of the reasons why I never really took 30mm with me was that those had different trajectory with low count and you couldn't fire those separately from 20mms.

Maybe HTC could turn 190s secondary weapon selection to include these modes, shouldn't be big thing to do I believe (and hope).

I believe those "gun pods" are of the 300 litre caliber, they use C3 ammo I think.

Using PSP6 I've zoomed in on the image:

BEFORE

AFTER

They "appear" to have barrels

Hi

Those are not gunpods! The things sticking out in front are on every German 300 liter drop thank, but are usally much shorter. I dont know why they are so much longer on this plane, probably a 190G, but they are not gun barrels. Anyway no German 30mm cannon barell looks like that. The 108 barrel is much shorter and fatter, and the 103 barrel is longer, thicker, and has a very   distinctive muzzle brake.  As for the topic I think 190s must have a selector switch for the different cannon types. I think that the the MG trigger (main fire button F) should be configured to also fire the MG151 and secondary fire button to the 108 or MG FFs independantly or both cannon types fitted at the same time.

thanks GRUNHERZ

Well if they are gun pods...they are the most non efficient desighn for one ever concieved. And they have a chilling simularity to drop tanks...

Good fakes, enemy thinks you're carrying droptanks and underestimates you, then you blast his bellybutton of with big cannons

This is what I'd imagine gun pods to be like

..even though those are 20mm pods (2 in pods, 1 inner wing)
you can see what 109 pods looks like, in the game.
I don't think that gun pods would be attached to plane like drop tanks, rockets or bombs.

To put an end to the stupidity...

And before you ask, no - you can't have I or K.

Hmmm... looking in the key mappings under "Flight keys",  I noticed this:

Select Sec. Wep. KEY_BACKSPACE
Select Weapon KEY_BACK_SLASH

So I think all thats needed is for the "Select Weapon" key to select between:

CAN - all cannons
INR - inner pair
OTR - outer pair

And we have our solution.

I don't know what the "Weapon Select" key is really for though, it doesn't seem to do anything, I think.

...anyway, where is my wing drop tanks from  A-8 for that matter?

and as while posting this there came new mail, got to edit this...

*WHERE* are those two MK108 / MK103 pods and bombs... geez.
109Gs has 20mm pods, but FW190A-8 does not have its rightful pods?
(hmm, I think that A-5 was possible to fit with 20mm pods also)

Juzz, why not cannons? 109 has also 20mm pods and turns it into flying pig compared to single 20mm.
Remember also that with cannon pods you don't have outer wing cannons.. (making it 6 x 20mm)

man, are yanks permitted to have all the goodies but not LW? (even WGr.21 A/A rocket is faulty!)

one more prove of allied conspiracy

Do we have some message editing competition here, Juzz?

My opionion for the fix would to put those selections in secondary weapon slot, with the bombs and goodies. (that weapon select was for primary guns, which are MGs in Fw190, if i remember correct)
