HTC;

Is the Spit cockpit modeled realistically?

I am referring to the size of the cross bar frames.  They seem huge, and drastically in the way.

Check...

(Not sure how to get the URL posted here)

Notice the canopy of the Spit in the background.  Mk XVI?  That canopy would be nice, although rearward visability not much better.

I also noticed that the Spit's FPS is 5-10 FPS less than P-51 or N1K2.

FPS with spit is less because P-51 and N1K2 has newer graphics.

Gonna be fun when I get my 109 redone

I agree with the first post. To me the canopy in the spit seems really large,
If it could be just a little smaller that would be great

A Spitfire with a bubble hood would be nice, especially since they had them before the Mustang, I think?

It`s because the Spits "UFO" energy source is eating too many CPU cycles.

I think the spit framework looks very big but maybe it's to do with scaling as the spit had a small snug cockpit so the frame work is seen from much closer than in other planes hence appearing bigger, maybe.

The Spitfire does have a bubble canopy which is why you can look over the armor so well.  As far as the armor glass in the front, Pyro and I measured it several times from our references to make sure it was correct.

Actually I thought the bubble hood was installed on the Spitfire Mk1 to let taller pilots fit in the cockpit, rather than to improve visibility. Anyway, I want a teardrop-shaped clear-blown bubble hood, like the P51D has - which they pinched from the Typhoon I believe?

While we are on this subject I am wondering why a flight sim offers external views while flying online in combat. This sort of removes the cockpit limitations with the flick of a view button. Just flying to and from the combat area it makes it easy to see all around and well below the plane. Really prevents being surprised like the real thing doesn't it?

Should we really be able to use this external view in combat?

SuperFly;

Thanks, for your reply.  One more try on my part and I will leave it alone.

If this Spitfire canopy is accurate, how about cheating a little and make the horizontal bar smaller?

Seriously, the horizontal bar sits smack dab in the 45 degree front up view.  It is huge.  This bar completely hides the nme plane and the whole icon above the plane.  I wind up cheating to get this view. Alah, the F3 view.  I'm sure the F3 view days are numbered.

Sure would make the timimg of lead turns much easier.

Compare the two pictures below.

Spitfire... http://www.geocities.com/CapeCanaveral/Hangar/9378/spit21.jpg

P-51, the 2nd from the bottom picture is best... http://www.cebudanderson.com/photopge.htm

It appears that the canopy horizontal bar in the Spitfire is very close to the size of the P-51 horizontal bar.

Ok, so here is one just to give you nightmares.  Model this... http://www.rels.com/ag1caf/usplanes/aircraft/P82twin.htm

When I first go into a sim, the first plane I try to fly is a Spit.
When I got into the AH Spit for the first (& only) time, my gut reaction was (Oh Yuck)!

I Climbed back out and went for the Pony.

Oh yeah, FYI, I think the external view should only be used off-line.

One of the reasons I fly the Pony is for the view. If any of you have seen the AW3 FW views, it ain't very pretty & the line of sight in any direction is limited by padding or framing. I count on them krauts not seeing so well, when I'm screaming in on them.

The F3 mode will be disabled online in the future, so enjoy it while you can.
