9. The plane and rocket smoke trails have all changed to particle systems.

He means we getting more realistic smokes in next version?

Sounds like my PIII800MHz/256M/GF2 32M will be on its knees...:(

particle system means that every smoking plane start to emit particles...some of which are even dangerous. Take neutrino, for example, it is so small that you can hardly see it from your plane. Yet, it sticks to your propeller causing more and more drag until it actually stops.

Don't fly into particles !

Particle system is a new way to model smoke, and it behaves much more realistic.

I assume the next logical step would be to model explotions in particles as well.

WWIIONLINE uses particle system when shells and bombs hit the ground, and the mud that are flying up in the air are modelled  with the particle system, it have a really nice and realistic look to it :)

This is only a good thing :D

You smell that? Do you smell that?
Napalm, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that.
I love the smell of napalm in the morning.
The smell, you know that gasoline smell, smelled like victory.

It's Ok Hristo, Neutrinos dont have much mass so the likelyhood is they will pass through your prop, straight through your groin area and only after passing through the back of your plane will they have lost enough velocity to lodge in the prop of the vulchin dweeb on yer six. (Which If it is during the rumble will probably be me:p )

It will be interesting to see what this looks like.  Warbirds has used a particle system for quite a while, and I always got good frame rates there even with the higher res planes on a PIII600/384/32meg card.

Of course, in WB I was flying in mostly empty arenas. . .:D

However, even in the scenarios I didn't see my frame rate taking a hit.

But it did take Warbirds a couple of tries to get a good-looking particle system that behaved like it was supposed to.  They also changed everything to a particle-system which made for crappy looking tracers and ack bursts that were so weenie you often couldn't see them.

It will, therefore, be interesting to see what HTC have come up with, but I think they are doing it intelligently by just starting out with the smoke--from what the folks at Warbirds said, modelling fire with their particle system was the hardest part.

Darn, this sounds real nice but I was hoping it was a reference to some new kind of particle beam weapon system to replace the laser guidance buff bombing.   :)

LOL! A neutrino particle could pass 6 times through the Earth side to side in average before colliding with an atom, because of its size.

mitsu at the moment I believe two  flat planes (not squashed aircraft) have a animated smoke or fire texture on them.

1st picture shows what they would look like with no texture (why you see a cross shape in smoke trails when following)

a particle system has an emmiter (where the particle form) each particle has physical attributes which may or may not be used, for ex, will gravity, wind etc have affect on them.

ex:
I would imagine that the emmiter will be at the back of the rocket, so as it travels particles will trial/be fired backward from it

see 2nd picture

note: the particles can be anything, they copy an object that you choose, so you could have lots of little tiny LA-7 coming out the back of a rocket if you wanted to :D

I hope this makes sense and we'll see how thet implement it.
