Best furball ever!
« on: September 02, 2000, 09:05:00 PM »
Tonight I experienced the best dogfight i've ever been in, and I died in the end. It was in tonights Check Six event.  I was leading a flight of about 8-10 190a5's .  We were climbing past 20k as we saw some dots at our high 11:00.  As we got closer we realized they were 51's and 47's, not b17's.

There was a cloud bank at our low 9:00 so we all headed for it.  The 51's bounced us just as we reached the clouds and we were able to evade them.  I personaly evaded 6 diferent 51's and 47's, 1 38 too, using the clouds. This took me some time and while i was trying to stay alive 1/2 of the fight had gone low.  So I dove down to clear some 6's.  I locked on to a 51 and took him out on my 1st pass. Then I nailed a p38 who pulled out right in front of me

3 or 4 of our flight were still fighting up high, so zigrat, ash, storm and myself started climbing north.  We then saw 2 p47's on Visconti so we helped him out.  That's when I killed my squadie Tagert   .  Well this is when the calvari came in for the USA. We had about 5 planes left from the fight when we were bounced by about 15 mixed allied planes.

Torque finaly ended my flight. It was about a 25 minute fight, the longest sustained furball i've ever been in. Wish clouds would work in the film viewer.

Hang it was great.

I was leading a flight of 5 ponies when we saw the 190's and 109's.  We had climbed to 25k and then saw them just above us.

We both made for the clouds, and I gotta say, that was the most fun I have had in here in a long while.  The fight was just intense.

You would get on a con or a con would latch onto your six, but either way, you would find yourself in the clouds.  The jocking for position must of lasted a good 5 to 10 minutes alone.

Anyway, I got chased low by a 190 and had a squaddie clear me.  As I was extending out, I spotted a lone 190 doing the same.  After some chasing I finally got him, but found myself deep in Germany.  I did the thing any sensible pony driver would do....I cobbed the throttle and headed for home as fast as I could.

Just as I cleared a ridge, I saw Rob53 chasing a 109, I dove on him, but blew the bounce.  The 109 (visconti) pulled an excellent reversal and got Rob   .  But as luck would have it, a squaddie nailed the 109.

That's when I saw Torque tangling with a 190.  I turned towards them just as the 190 pointed his nose in my direction.  I got a lucky front shot and was rewarded with the assist on Udie.

Great Fights Tonight.

The fight was too high for my A8.

While the fighting was good, the time to the fights sucked big time.

I prefer 0-10k furballs
