I've had a few lockups today on the isles terrain.  The first was whilst in an Ostwind.  I'd just killed a Boston III and as his bombs hit me I went into a lockup with sound loop.

The other lockup was on auto-takeoff from A1 in a Typhoon.  I wasn't touching any controls.... just locked up.

Additionally I've been having CTDs with this terrain.  Desert terrain was fine.

Please help,

Well this weekend I spent time rebuilding my system and cleaning out all the dust. I'm am still getting system freezes about once  every three sorties (most my sorties are long) or about once every hour or hour & 1/2. Really irritating. Sometimes I'll get two freezes within about 5 minutes but thats more rare howevre from time to time does occur. The worst evening was that night I first posted about this. Now that I've cleaned up my system and reinstalled the OS, I'm inclined now to think its the software and not my system. Irritating...

  :( :o

Well some good news at last. Absolutely no lockups tonight. I upgraded my DirectX to 8.1 and so far the first time on, I experienced no lockups. However on the flip side of the coin, I thought game play was wierd tonight, very mushy with alot of rubber bullets and general poor network connect. I could not land a single mission all night. Anyways good news, no lockups with DirectX 8.1. Well see what happens tomorrow.

(1) I stand a quite good chance of a system freeze when first one of the three B17s dies and I am looking in that direction (whether I was the one shooting or not).  HAs not yet occurred with the other bomber formations, just b17's.  Most days things are fine, but god help me if I go near a b17 formation.

(2) Occasionally get CTD with a DxHelp.exe (or something like that)  errror message.   After the CTD AH will not restart unless I reboot.

Win98se
Athlon XP 1800
256 meg system ram
Geforce2 Mx400 64 meg video ram
ECS K7SVA mobo (latest bios)
SB Live 5.1

CPU temp in hardware monitor after an "event" 48 degrees Centigrade  (which I felt was VERY good - have lots of cooling).

DSL Internet connection

Clean install of Windows and Game

Running DX 8.1

Running Mitsu Sound Pack  <---hmmmm?

No lockups tonight so I believe my lockups are resolved. Alot alot  of freezes everynight compared to none at all means fixed for me. Only thing is that DirectX8.1 doesnt seem to me as 100% smooth as 8.0 was. Just a very little bit here and there in terms of lost of smoothness but otherwise is very playable. Tonights session went well. Back to normal.

Been some screen freezing and CTDs for many of us since 1.10. Feel sure it's being worked.

Here's a link to DirectX 8.1b.  Haven't found the feature list for it so I don't know what was fixed or added to this version.

Thanks for 8.1b update. I only just updated the other day but looks like I am running DirectX8.1. I usually get my DirectX stuff from

http://www.microsoft.com/directx

There seems to be an 8.1b file there now.

Yuck DirectX8.1b sucks. I had two system freezes and B&Z was next to suicidal. All would be ok then when the con is in shooting range, all frame heck would break loose. Well not really but it was twitchy and sticky (including my plane) enough that I couldnt hit squat and once it even crahed me into a hill. Was chasing down a yak then it got twitchy and sticky, next thing I know I went into a hill with a bunch of frames missing in between (the part where I would have pulled up a bit). Got so mad and frustrated so I downloaded DirectX8.1 again. Back to normal and playable again. Very little twitches here and there but playable at least. I was getting beatup with 8.1b.

8.0a is still the smoothest though it locks up alot now.

I think 8.1 is a slight bit faster by some FPS per second though with a slight subtle bit of twitchiness and stickiness with the con and my own plane.

8.1b is more twitchy/sticky than 8.1 and is not reliable for ACM.

FYI: HT

Bad news today, lotsa freezes again with DirectX8.1 not b.

BTW: The F4u-1C seems to have a frames issue when the guns are fired. The screen gets jumpy, difficult to aim.

Was hoping that I had found some sorta fix but I guess not. Please HELP.

Thanks...

Had a couple system freezes last night. The first time it happened after I logged in but before I got to the choose an arena screen. That is the first time I've locked up while not actually flying. Based on that it would seem to me it's in the net code rather than something in the sound or video, just guessing.

System Freeze / Crash to Desktop
« Reply #26 on: July 28, 2002, 04:58:04 PM »
I've been having this problem a lot lately. I am flying around, usually by myself, or mabye a couple other planes in the area and without warning, I'm back at the desktop. No error, no indications of crash, nothing.

Other times I'll be flying aorund and the whole system will lock. I have ot hard boot it by turning it off to get it working again.

I'm on a Dell Inspiron 8200 Laptop. I've updated all my drivers and am running XP. I have 256mb of Ram, my video card is Geforce 4 440 go with 64 mb of ram. I don't have any problems with other games and normally this one runs great. But for no reason that I can tell it keeps crashing to the desktop.

Any fixes that you know of?

Tumbler,

This is not a unique problem to only you. Several of us have had the same problems. There have been a lot of screen freezes and CTD since v1.10 came out.

I hope HTC is working on it.

hey guys i get system freezes with that sound loop and mentioned it to my squad and figured out it was my video card over heating so now i run it with the side open and it runs a whole lot smoother, and doesn't lock up.

I'm having to unplug my comp. 2 or 3 times a night due to screen freezes since the update.... Imagine how many players are also having this problem but don't visit these boards.

So what's in the works????
