Jerky Grphics 2
« on: July 04, 2002, 02:42:12 AM »
Got a problem with jerky graphics, the problem is exactly as described many times before by others (akin to a spikey joystick).  The puzzling part is that it continues to act up with Zone Alarm turned off and tuning down sound accel in DXDIAG has no effect on it either.  Are there any other fixes out there that anybody knows of?

AMD 1.4ghz
512meg SDRAM
SB 16
NVIDIA GeForce2 Ti (driver 4.13.01.2183)
DirectX 8.1 (4.08.01.0881)
Windows ME

The only thing running is Explorer, my DSL connex, and Aces High.

hmm...
maybe time to do a virus scan, and possibly scandisk/defrag...

also check to see if ANY of your cards are sharing an IRQ with the video card

Virus scan turned up clean, scandisk&defrag done, no shared Interrupts... still getting jerky graphics that coincide with a light grey or white-coloured bar that flashes at the bottom of the screen (only happens when online in Aces High).

Click on the Start button, go to Run and type MSCONFIG.

Now click on the Start Up tab and uncheck all unnecessary programs to prevent them from loading up with Windows starts up.  A lot of times, some of these programs on the Start Up list do not show when you press Ctrl+Alt+Del. Reboot computer.

Have exact same prob, white line at bottom of screen flashing when online aces high, I've a abit siluro t400 agp card, thinking about changing.  It helped a bit by going into setup(cmos) and making sure under peripherals that set irq for vga card was off.

Yes, the icon shows up in the sys tray when connected and I can't for the life of me find any way to get rid of it.

The Icon indicates an ethernet adapter connection. If you have an ethernet card installed you may have to go into the hardware profile and disable. But if you are running a DSL or Cable modem or a local internal ethernet connection I would not do this.
Under control panel, system, locate the card and disable the resource.
See if this helps resolve your problem.
What I suspect is happening is the card is polling for an address to connection via microsoft family network connections.

I can't disable my ethernet card due to the fact my DSL is connected to it.

Right-click Network 'hood, My Network, or whatever it is in your OS.  Now you'll see an icon for your LAN connection.  Right-click that in and choose properties.  At the bottom of the "general" tab should be a check box labelled "show icon on taskbar".  Clear this check box.

This is on Win2k.  It may be different for 9x/ME.  If you can't get it, holler and I'll look at home on my 98 box.

Oh... if this isn't the problem... it's drivers.  I never liked 21.83, it was a nasty build.  Try the latest WHQL build since this version isn't working.

I had similar symptons with Win2K Pro...  I changed oporating systems, but did some follow-on research and this should help if not fix your problem all-together.  Did you recently upgrade your OS, Vid Drivers, Sound Card, or Monitor?

Sounds like improperly installed/removed nVidia driver symptoms... Their drivers are a little funky in that before you install new ones, you MUST completely uninstall the old ones!! (COMPLETELY).

Here's what you need to do:

Goto The Guru of 3D site and download their "Detonator Destroyer" program. They also have several help files...

<>
Uninstall your nVidia Drivers.
Run Detonator Destroyer.
Reboot
Let your computer find and install generic drivers.
Reboot again.
Install your nVidia Drivers.
Reboot one last time.

Hope this helps
Cyas Up!
