Anyone else getting a wee bit bored?
« on: August 04, 2001, 12:56:00 PM »
I don't want to call it burnout, because I really don't think I am (unless denial is the first stage?  :)  )....but as of lately, the game seems to be pretty much a bore.

Been flying Knight and we've been in the bucket almost everyday this week.  Last night we just couldnt seem to get folks to work, united, to either defend or take back bases.  Funny how in the chat buffer, folks ask for buffs, goons and missions.  Did em all.  Leveled 23 in  Lancaster 4 times and just not enough fols wanted to stop furballing to come n get it.  Then someone yells for a gooney, so I bring one of those, thinking I'll help the effort.  Enemy 109s tore me up every time.  (Why do so many of you call for goons or buffs and refuse to support them?).  Finally, not being the only one a little disappointed in spending so much time in the chute, I formed a mission, after folks asked me to do so.  1 or 2 joined.

I'm not trying to incite any flames back and forth, just wondering if anyone else is finding this "gameplay" rather stale.

Guess it depends on your gameplaying goals. If taking bases is your thing, and everyone else just wants to furball, then it's not going to happen for you. OTOH, I've had flights where enemy planes avoid engagement to fly, kamikaze-like, into bases to drop bombs and rockets, and crash into the turf. To each his own, I guess.

I think it's time for a Full Realism arena to sort out the furballers from the strategy folks.

Actually, I think gameplay is what the individual makes it.

HTC has provided the sandbox and the toys. It's up to the individual to have fun.

If the way others play is the problem... it's not a gameplay issue then, is it?

When things get a little repetitive for me, I usually do something I don't normally do. For example, I normally fly fighters. For a change of pace, I may only do bombers for a while. Works for me.

Good luck!

Actually Toad, gameplay is what the host(HT)dictates.Gameplay is the result of a carefull balance of furballing, field capture,FOG of war and flight models.Trying to please all people in one arena is not working for me.I would like the option of logging on to another set of gameplay conditions(eg..arena).IN fact,I just rejoined AW3ME to get that dose of gameplay that is sometimes missing here.

Aren't you still saying that the way people make use of the tools provided by HTC in the MA is not pleasing to you?

Either that or you are saying there is too many play options for players in the MA, right? You want another more restricted set of gameplay options in another arena?

Bored? Not me. I just got back from a two week vacation. Completely PC free and everything is refreshed - except what little skill I may have had  ;)

Being a Knight, the one thing I've noted lately in field captures is that the base isn't completely dead before goons roll in.  It almost appears to me as though a couple FH's are kept up so that fighters can vulch and have fun.  But after a while, friendlies run low on fuel and numbers decrease over the field while more and more enemy ride to the fight and by then it's too late for a goon as acks and hangars regenerate.  Not sure if things are planned this way, but it does appear to have this end result.

I will generally assist on a field capture as best I can but I have to admit there are times when I just want to do my own thing as I'm sure the same for other people.

Yea, maybe it is time to pull out the old Warcraft CDs again.

The last few nights, I've really been trying to help out, rather than do my own thing.  If someone mentions we need a buff or a goon someplace, I take them at their word and bring it.  But, as of late, I've been getting ditched a lot in trying to assist.  For example, someone asks for a heavy bomber to field XX and once there, 5 of our guys are chasing one con, while 3 hammer away at me.  The person(s) asking for the buff are no where to be seen, and in the end, the buff is destroyed.

Same thing with the goons.  Do you guys know how long it takes to drive those things out there   :)  I was asked to hold short and wait for the go ahead to go in, so I did.  10 minutes pass, then 20, then 45, and my calls of "Is xx ready for goon?" go pretty much unanswered.  Low and behold, we've given up on this base, just neglected to tell the poor soul who drove the goon.

So anyways, that's the source of a lof of my burnout lately.  BUFFs and GOONs take a while to get to target, and its easy for folks to ask for them..but you guys also have to see it through, cover them where you can and at least tell them if the area is too hot, etc.  In general, if you ask for em, you help take care of them   :)

But hey, call me kooky   :)
