I know it's a totally different 37mm, but still...
Last night the bish were hitting A90 with GVs and I decided to try something different and up in an M8 Greyhound--I figured, hey, being able to get to a firing point quickly is worth something, right?
So I blew away an M3 easily enough, and then started working on an Ostwind chugging up the hill toward A90 town. I ranged him easily, 1200 yards or so, and started laying into him with the M8's 37mm firing AP ammo.
He started smoking on the second or third hit--a turret hit, I figured, since he wasn't using that can-opener 37mm on me, and he was still moving. So I started scattering hits all over him, some in the turret, some in the glacis plate, some on the tracks, mostly aiming for the joint between the turret and the hull.
Ten hits. Still coming.
Twenty hits. Still coming. He's less than 800 yards out, and now I'm hitting him 80-90% of the time. He's easy meat.
THIRTY hits. By this time he's less than 500 yards away according to the gunsight, and has taken out my pintle .50 with his hull popgun. And STILL, he's coming. I'm slamming shot after shot after shot after shot dead on into his turret cupola and tracks--no effect.
FORTY hits. I'm running low on ammo but still firing, now at less than two hundred yards. He's STILL MOVING. He drives
around me, with me laying shot after shot into his side and tracks at under
one hundred yards. Then he stops behind me, with his right side to me, fifty yards away. And I'm firing and firing and firing and it won't die. He's not disabled--he just stopped moving.
FIFTY hits. A nearby Pzkfw IV opens up on him and blows him away in one shot.
I got an assist.
50+ 37mm hits, many of them well inside lethal range, and all I got was a bloody assist.
30 minutes later, I hit an Ostwind three times in the right side with an M8, range 600 yards, and the sucker blew up.
I give up trying to figure GVs out in this game.
