F4U 1-D Corsair

GREETINGS!

As my squadron (No. 54) will attest, I fly the Corsair exclusively.  I noticed that the first day 1.10 was released, it was very smooth and maneuverable.  However, after the 1.10 patch 1 came out, it has been a bear to maneuver.

Before 1.10, I could take off on autopilot with 75-100% fuel and rockets with only a couple of chirps from the stall horn and it was a fairly smooth takeoff.   However, now if I do the same, the plane "jerks" around like crazy and and the stall horn is constantly blaring as the plane bobs up and down and starts to drop out of the sky.  The same thing with moderate speed "pull-ups/outs"  It's almost like compressability has been significantly increased.  I'm diving at 60 degrees or so at enemy, and only diving at about 220 mph then start to pull up into a shallow dive but the response is not there.

Any ideas?  I have checked to make sure the "Enable Stall" deal is DE-selected, but the plane is acting like the limiter is on.

Thanks in advance.

'Enable Stall' should be ON.

Funny thing.

The first day I was flying 1.10 I thought I had a glider behind me I was towing. I figured it was micro warps from the new host. Haven't noticed it as much since but I haven't checked my stall settings.

Better go have a look huh?

Mac, also be aware of the altitude you launch from, and dog fite in...currently, the arena is a 30 mph wind (W>>E) at 14k, it does funny things to your plane when your dogfighting passing thru that 500 feet of "unstable" air.

The hogs are compressing sooner than before, without question. I don't have an answer, but there's definitely a difference, although it seems to operate more smoothly on the edge also...fewer snap stalls for me.

Nothing has changed in the flight model.

But there are 2 other changes

1. Stall horn will come on in a slightly different spot. This could be what makes you think it's smother on the edge.

2. Fields at higher alt will make you think you hit compresiblity early. Basicly you are flying at higher alts, hence early compresiblity.

Compressability, etc.

Thanks for all the prompt answers.

Hitech, and all:

What about it happening when you take off from CV?  You are not at 11k and it still handles differently.

Also, diving below 220 mph on target from 6k to take out a VH with bombs and rockets and the Corsair still feels really sluggish when pulling out of shallow dive.  I will try to film next time and if it's illustrated, I'll post it or send it to you (if not too big).

Its really strange, because before the patch I could not believe how well the Corsair was handling.  It almost felt like I was flying a Spit.  It was crisp and maneuvered well.  Now it feels really sluggish.  Turning in it feel like you are turning in a C47.

I'll be flying at 200 kias and slowly bank and turn gently and the stall horn goes off like crazy and the plane starts to stall a bit.  It's not a calibration problem.  I've checked.

HiTech, thanks for the release and for responding to my query.

Hey, watch out, C-47s are one of the more nimble planes in AH, trust me :)

Ok...I meant a REALLY REALLY heavy buff with gears and flaps down and barely above stall being flown by FAT BASTARD who weighs in at a Metric Ton!

This is starting to sound like the symptoms of a poorly calibrated joystick.

I flew yesterday for a couple of hours and EVERYTHING was back to normal for the F4U-1D.

Dont know what it was, but I'm not the only one that noticed so I doubt that it was just me.  It wasn't calibration (I thought of that and calibrated before posting).  It wasn't the ENABLE STALL LIMITER box......it was de-selected.

Oh well.   Blame it on GREMLINS  =)
