What do you think they have planned, if this information is accurate?

Playing for the red team here, what has struck fear into the west not including the actual 9/11 events.  School shootings.

It was always topping the news, and hit us where it hurts:  Our kids.

Think of what 10 or 20 groups of 4 or 5 guys could do if they attacked  schools full of kids simultaneously across the country.  It would bring our society to a standstill.  People wouldn't let their kids go to school for quite a while, and even if large amounts of police/Guardsmen were mobilized to protect our schools, how could children learn under an umbrella of fear.

I remember when I was about 10, a cult in my hometown had threatened to kidnap children to an informant, and threatened all kinds of crazy crap (My dad was one of the detectives on the case), and they locked all of us in our school with chains and locks on the doors that day (good thing there was no fire).  We were terrified, we could see the panic on the teachers faces, and it spread like wildfire.  Imagine what would happen if you were a kid again, knew schools had been attacked, and it was covered all over the news.  Disruptive would be the very least description I could think of.

I hope I'm wrong.  But we are up against a ruthless, capable enemy here who has GOT to be thinking best bang for the buck at the moment.  What else could be easier from their point of view?

Everyone seems to be focussing on the "Nuclear power plant" or "Bio/Chem weapons or water supply" type attacks, and forgetting the most basic rules of war.  The simplest plan is usually the most effective.  It would be no great loss of manpower to Al-Q, and a HUGE kick in the balls for us if they proceeded with this type of attack.  Hell, even institutes of higher learning would be a legit target from their point of view, and again, against unarmed and unprepared targets, they would have their way with them untill enough police/military assest could show up and stop them.


With each passing major holiday without a strike, I'm personally getting more and more nervous, to the point of being up at these types of hours thinking about this crap.

You boys have more to fear from your fellow Americans than anyone else.  Paranoia posts about terrorists around every corner wont help much I suspect. Its one thing to be aware and another to inspire fear.

You have 12 year olds carrying firearms and dealing drugs. How could terrorists possibly top what your doing to yourselves already and seem to accept it as part of everyday life?

uh...scspook, a terrorist attack against 10 schools at the same time killing hundreds or thousands of kids aged 7-14 is a helluvalot worse than "normal" US crimes.

Heck, I live in Sweden (a pretty safe place) and the thought of such an attack is terrifying even to me. We in the western civilization is perhaps more vunerable through our kids than anyting else.  And it is also both plausible and "normal" for a terrorist organization to target kids. If you take a look at the Palestinian suicide bombers in Israel, you will note that they have a tendancy to aim for children and mothers with baby carriages.  

Gman has a very valid point, and I for one think he has the right to voice his concerns. Especially when the law agencies in the US has to fight the war against terrorism with both hands tied behind their back thanks to the liberal morons the have over there.

Weather is great over here, you know, its the perfect weather to just sit in a bar and drink cold beer all day long. Sunshine, clearblue skies without a cloud in sight, temperatures around 30C (apparently that is something like 86F), lots of blonde girls walking around with precious little clothes on...

I just can't let the Terrorists win the battle they really want.  The world "living in fear".  I am not beating my chest when I say this: I would have done what the guys did on that Pennsylvania crash.  I still would and will, if ever put in that position.  

The thing that boggles my mind is the "pure hatred" some of the Palestians, Israelis and these terrorists are RAISED in.  I don't understand why people can hate someone they don't even know and have never seen!?  I guess we're not supposed too?

I'm curious as to where "school shootings" by terrorists became such a concern.  It seems the terrorists have been acting against much more specific targets representing financial and power based institutions... as well as decadent situations.

I cannot see how attacking children at a school would be a major victory in thier attack against the great satan.

These people do not think the way we do. It is important to remember that. To these people killing civilians to create terror is a goal in itself. Therefore it makes sense to them to target children..because we are more horrified and shocked by that = larger psychological impact = more effective terror attack.

You are comparing an act of a Palistinian bomber to that of the Al-Queda.  Two very different situations and two very different agendas.

In regards to the Al-Queda... what would a mass attack against school children accomplish?  Think U.S., Europe and globally.

Exactly what is your impression of what the Al Quaida agenda is?
 
A mass attack against schoolchildren would cripple the US. Gman describes it very well in his initial post. One of the effect would be that more liberals citizens would want to back out of this war by caving in to Al Queida demands.

What do you think will happen when the first suicide bombers strike at a Starbucks in Bismarck? Or the first car bomb goes off in Denver? Or a schoolbus in Arkansas? You just wait until Al Quaida gets a suicide bomber program rolling in the US. You will be surprised.

The Al Quaida's primary goal is to remove the US from the middle east equation. Be it support for Israel, or the current Saudi government. They want to achieve this goal by basically scaring the US off. They want to scare the US by using terror. They want the average Joe to think "Is the mid east worth it? No way..screw that"
