AH on Linux
« on: July 12, 2002, 02:08:39 PM »
Hi all,

Some news about AH on Linux :
the new 1.10patch1 version does work under WineX. There is an issue on my machine with it crashing on quit, which is annoying but does not affect gameplay.

My joystick patches to enable AH and to add POV hat support to WineX have been accepted into WineX yesterday, and you don't need anything special to enable joystick support anymore.

For full install instructions, updates, etc. check out my AH Linux site :

Thanks for the info, but posting on one forum is enough.
You have posted here and on the hardware forum, wich costs bandwidth and causes confusion.
Try to avoid that next time ;)

I for one appreciate your post-I'm in the middle of excising Windoze from my computing universe and AH is the one app that causes me to reboot my machine regularly.

I have a Soyo Dragon Plus|Athlon 1800+|256mb DDR|GeForce 3 Ti 200........do you have any idea what kind of frame rate should I expect?

re:the crossposting-since when is software hardware. I'm missing something there.....

Could someone post the rules for posting please i have looked everywhere and can t find rules regarding sensitive readers!! or any rules in general on posting...could be looking in the wrong area though...  "General Forum" sounds pretty generic to me...
what posts should the Word general imply not being posted?!

Relax.

Its not that the post doesnt belong in the General Forum, is that he posted a similar thread on the hardware forum
http://www.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=58690

Its not a rule of posting, its more of an netiquette thing.
Its only one BBS, the is no reason to post similar threads on two forums. Believe it or not, each one of these threads cost HTC money. Only a few cents, but add up all the unnecessary posts in a year, and thats a substantial amount of money.

Also, theres the confusion. People make a reply on one of the threads, but not in the other, and two different threads spring up from the same message.

Also, there is a limited amount of thread displayed on a single page. Every time you make a new thread, another one is bumped from the main page, thus it loses priority, and that discussion dies. Its called board spamming.

If your going to post as a BBS authority figure like you have
I would suggest that  immature words like 'Retard" not be used in your posts.. Otherwise no one will take you very seriously when you tell them what to do... And how not to post....
Still waitng on the BBS postinig rules?? they must be here somewhere?! ohhh...ohhh.. there are no rules regarding posting!!! ehhhh! That explains it all......

Ok,

The fps is actually worse for me under linux, but I have an ATI Radeon 7200. The bad fps is because ATI does not make linux drivers for that card, and the ones available are reverse-engineered, and do not use all of the radeon's features.
You should see comparable or better FPS in Linux if you have an Nvidia card. Give it a shot! :)

About the crossposting: sorry, just that posting it here gives it a much wider audience, but hardware and software is where the post really belongs.  I do not believe that crossposting to 2 boards is an abuse -- look at usenet netiquette -- crossposting to 3 or less groups is fine as long as your post is relevant to all of them.

I think it'll definately be worth trying.
Like I said, Nvidia has much better drivers under linux. Make sure you go to the nvidia site and download and install the appropriate driver before you try though.
