I heard of the policy to charge for an extra seat if you can't fit into one and that made sense to me.

What I don't understand is how they can fly them somewhere and then try to charge them on the return leg of the flight.

this is a good policy as there are too many overweight people in the US.:)  If you make them pay for being fat maybe they will try to lose weight. I totally agree with this policy because of other reasons. Airliner seats are so small that it's quite 'touchy' being next to anybody.But if your neighbour is a sweaty fatso , your 4,5,6,78 hours ride becomes hell.

yes, but too many ppl are too damned large :)

heard a fattie on the radio from some "I'm fat and love it" group saying the airlines should remove seats, and provide larger seats for their fat arses ... LOL

I fly SW a whole lot and have had the experience of the 350 lb guy come huffing down the aisle after a 20 yard marathon down the jetway to "excuse" himself and grab middle seat between me and some other unfortunate person.  He immediately pulled the arms up  on either side of his seat and proceeded to ooze over me.  For the next 90 munutes I had to endure having this hot and sweaty huffing jerk try to engulf me in his lard.   He did show his great restraint by refusing peanuts.

It's not about their needs.  If they choose to be fat that's okay.  I have the right to chose not to share the seat I paid for with their tub of guts.  Ship 'em UPS ground!

Sounds like a great idea as long as "Fatass Class" has a little higher fare.  Not some ridiculous First Class fare, just a fare that's proportional to the amount of room the bigger seats eat up.

But they definitely need to add some bigger seats.  Even when I was in "fighting shape" I couldn't fit in those dinky seats.  My shoulders are simply too wide to fit in one of those seats.  They're too short too.  The "head rest" hits me in the shoulder blades...
