to have a world war, you have to have at least one meaningful enemy and front to fight on. Somehow china just doesn't fit the bill. Even if they do invade Taiwan, then what ? Second front opens in Saudi Arabia ? Against whom ?

World of world wars is over for now. Not enough big boys in the park left.

The Israeli Prime Minister is assasinated by Palestinian dissedents.  Israel launches massive conventianal strike in retalliation.  Pakistan uses the forthcoming religious rhetoric that follows to encite the Muslim world in its issues with India. India fears immiment attack and strikes first across Pakistani borders. Religious fervour is now at its all time peak. Indonesian Muslims revolt in whats now seen to be a move by Western Powers to destabilise the region as its internal powers battle for control and use anti-Western Propaganda to bolster a sense of unity.  Australia and South East Asia come under attack.  Britain and American Forces are stretched as they fight fires all over the world and come to the aid of their Allies in the Pacific.  The Arabic nations seize their opportunity to silence Israel once and for all. Iraqi forces strike into Iran and Kuwait.  The Western Alliances see the danger to fuel reserves.  Nato strengthens its borders. Turmoil in the Warsaw countries sparks as old enemies fear the opportunists on their borders and move to retaliate in kind. Border incidents and terrorists action spark fear and promote the opening of old wounds.  China seizes its chance with Taiwan as US Naval Forces are forced out of the region to defend US interests elsewhere in the world.

India or Pakistan are the first to push the button....

Wars are easy to start.  Harder to prevent and even harder to stop. Saying their will never be a war of Nuclear escalation is scary. Its entirely possible for the smallest of reasons.

I prefer to stay out of this but just remember that at some point the sun will "burn out" (provided humanity makes it that far which I sincerely doubt) so its all pretty much just infantile BS anyway.

Just enjoy your short time and be prepared to protect yourself should the need arise.  Thats all I have to say.

Bad Foriegn Policy or a recession perhaps. Internal strife?  History tells us that Super Powers have a limited lifespan with War or other means deciding on new World Leaders.  Are you that complacent that you would ask for War against a Country the size of China and risk the Arabic Countries who in my opinion cannot be trusted anyway, changing allegiances for religious or cultural reasons?

The US is powerful but only as powerful as its alliances. It will give someone a huge kick in the prettythang and a bloody nose but short of including itself in self annhilation, it cant take on the world by itself.  Remember Vietnam?  Many reasons, most of which cannot be anticipated in the hectic whirlpool of War could change the tide of victory.  Germany gave it a shot and lost.

Your patriotism is to be admired but dont lace it with complacent stupitidy or it may well be your downfall.  At somepoint in the future, however far ahead, there is going to be another all powerful entity on this planet.  10 years, 100 or 1000, it will come.

Perhaps next it will be Chinas turn.

China had it's turn, before Rome . She's been around for 4000 years, not nearly the empire that she was 2000 years ago but recovering, capitalism is returning and the chinese economy is modernizing .

  You forgot a few things.
1)  Canada invades the US to take back the croisant after giving it to us only to have us turn it into  La Croisandwitch. They also steal all cheese reserves.
 2) France lays down and spreads em for the first german to cross the border only to find out it is the Scorpions on there world tour.
3)Mexico invades Texas and levels all the Taclo Bells within a 100 mile radius untill the Texas Rangers headed by Chuck Norris force them back.

I look at history at what happened before both world wars and it's the same type of multi national political B.S.  that's been going on for the past few years.   When it happens I hope the Russians are on our side again.  I hope the only enemies are China, the Arabs, Iran and North Korea.

HAving lived through the "duck and cover" drills of the 60's and the bad  bad 70's and early 80's when it seemed like we had a cowboy with his hand on the trigger. Looks to me like all is pretty freaking rosey right now Udie. No worries mate.

Rome: fell because its empire was larger than its lines of communication.  They split into an eastern half and a western half. Fractured and fell to local denizens of the territory (ie feudal lords).  And having crazy leaders that couldn't lead their way out a paper bag didn't help either.

Mongols: Can't comment - not part of my school curriculum.

Spanish: got caught up with religious zealotry and then had their fleet smashed on the shores of the English Channel (or thereabouts).  No fleet, no control of the seas, no superpower for you!

The Dutch: they were a superpower?

Napoleon: it took the Duke of Windsor and the timely arrival of the Prussian army to knock him back, and even then he didn't stay down.  Too bad he was working with a peasant government that was clueless.

Britain: Managed to retain their empire for a respectable amount of time.  Some (cough, cough, Argentina, cough) would say they're still a superpower to be reckoned with (hello, welcome to the Falklands).

What would it take to bring the US down?

Another big Depression (check the stock market today?), coupled with an energy crisis (cough, cough Saudi Arabia, cough, Iraq, cough, Venezuela, cough, cough), and war (Iraq, North Korea, Libya to name a few hotspots).  Nothing kills a country faster than losing money, raw materials, and military presence.  As the Soviet Union has proven, you can kill a country without a war and without an energy crisis if it can lose enough money.

That was the al Queyda's plan when they dropped 2 jumbo jets on New York.
