As it is now, 9 times out of 10 the guy who lands the first round at ANY range knocks out the turrent or outright kills the tank. Historicly... this is VERY incorrect for targets at any range and other than 90 degree deflection.
Tank combat in WWII is such that it is hard to draw any kind of general historical conclusion that can be applied to AH. Certainly a Jadgtiger could kill anything the gunner could see in one shot. AH has only the PzIV but we don’t have a lot of historical PzIV vs. PzIV encounters to draw on. (But do have a lot of Panther vs. Sherman which would tend towards one shot kills at reasonable ranges.) I’m also impressed that at max range you can tell the angle of impact, must have a better monitor than I.
What we also know that the German 75mm KwK 40 L/48 that the PzKpfw IV aus H (Somebody correct me if I have the wrong gun here…) was equipped with could penetrate (at 90 degrees) 114mm at 500m, 85mm at 1000m and 64mm at 2000m with the standard (as opposed to the subcalibre) AP rounds. Considering that the MAXIMUM thickness of the PzIV's armour was 80mm, this seems like there is probably a good chance for a kill if the shot hits anywhere but dead front out to 1000m and at least some chance out to 2000m.
I’ve not done much tanking in AH. Is the 75 effective much beyond 2000m? HiTech is pretty good about that sort of thing so I would expect it not to be.
On the other hand, what I feel is “unhistorical” is the quality of the optics we are gifted with in the game. (WWIIOnline has/had the same problem btw.) There is never glare, the lenses never get dirty, reticules never get knocked out of alignment and so forth.
