It occured to me now that summer is in full swing to get out to some shows. The Scorpions, Dio, and Deep Purple are coming to the Hilton soon and got me thinking of good 'ol concerts of past.

Here's a few I've gone to, and it's damn near accurate as far as I can tell. I'm sure once people mention a few concerts they went to, I'll remember lots more.

Best of the bunch was Metallica on the Master of Puppets Tour because it was in a tiny cowboy bar in Tulsa when Cliff was still alive. Van Halen in 1984 was awesome, and it's hard to beat the early Rush shows as well. Man, how about the Nuge blowing Kiss off the stage?! Anyway...

I've seen bands like Night Ranger, Obituary, Primus, Coroner, Extreme, Candle Mass, Kaos, Steve Morse, Max Webster, .38 Special, etc... but they weren't real memorable.

* For anyone that was into the Bay Area scene, I went to Testament, Exodus, Vio-lence, Death Angel etc. so many times 1990-94 can’t put them all in, but they were all pretty damn good.

I saw all them Rush tours too except for the Hemispheres and the Permanent Waves ones. Man, I'm jealous. Ha! But I saw the Iron Maiden "Piece of Mind" tour which was a good one you are missing. Scorps, Dio, Halen, Rainbow, Ozzy, it was all good. Oh, Saxon blew me away with "The Eagle Has Landed" song when I saw them live...the only band to ever get me to buy their album after seeing them. They warmed up for Iron Maiden. I saw Kiss...their Disco Album tour. I can't remember what it's called now...had a song, "I was made for loving you baby"...but I try to forget that one.

I used to collect all my concert tickets and would write down the opening act, but a few years ago during a move our storage unit was robbed and all that stuff is gone. I wish I still had them, it would be interesting to see all who I've seen.

1983 was close Sirloin, they played Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto November 15, 17, and 18th 1982 on The New World Tour- (guest The Payolas, whoever in the hell that is)

I can’t say I ever hear a Saxon tune. They weren’t the guys that had all the cool looking lp covers of the battle paintings?

Payolas had one hit song "Eyes of a Stranger".They won "Album of the Year" in Canada despite Signals having several hits and having 2 sides of great music.I had 11th row centre floors for the show which was great.Wierd thing was that everyone sat down after Rush played five songs...I think that pissed them off as that was the last time they started a tour in Toronto to this day.

Wow, you actually heard of them? Cool, but album of the year? LOl, did Digital Man not just cover every aspect of virtuoso and song structure? Not to mention Subdivisions, and the Analog Kid. I guess The naked ladies or something hideous Canadian band whatever they are called won the same award.

Anyway, Signals indeed was just 2 sides of great stuff, and anyone sitting down at a concert is a good thing. It would never have anything to do with a bands concert schedule.

I have spent too much time balancing on seat backs trying to have a cool beer and enjoy the show when the people in front of me forced me too do that unnecessary balancing act. If everyone sits down and digs the show, it’s the same view if you loft up for no reason.

Smashing Pumpkins - St. andrew's Hall - Billy Chamberlain came back before D-Arcy left. AWESOME show!

The Who - Quadrophenia - 1996 - will be seeing them in a month
Elton John 1998 - was awesome hearing Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy played live in 23 years! (My fav. album)

Phil Collins - like 95ish I think, was so-so
Billy Joel - 1998 - free tickets given to me (4) was a GREAT show
Emerson, Lake & Palmer - 1999 AWESOME
Roger Waters - 2000 - did too much Pink Floyd, but SOLO stuff WOOHOO

I am too tired to think of the others I have been too. I prefer classic rock though and SOME new stuff.

As of late?

In January or so New York Philharmonic at Avery Fisher Hall performing Brahms' 1st Symphony.

This last March a guest appearence by the Vienna Philharmonic conducted by Bernard Haitink at Carnegie Hall. Performed Brahms' Haydn Variations, Haydn's 101st Symphony and Strauss' programatic Don Quixote. The first one I enjoyed the most.

In April at Carnegie Hall again for a trio of piano sontas by Schubert and Mozart... also Brahms' Four Ballades. Pianist was Alfred Brendel.

And lastly a couple of months ago the Philadelphia Philharmonic w/ Wolfgang Sawallisch, premiered a new Piano Concerto and performed Brahms 3rd Symphony.

$10 student tickets are great hehe. For the Vienna Philharmonic I was lucky and got a seat in the left parquet.

Well, I guess it's just more display of how overall people have opted to listen to music that requires llittle skill or thought to compose/organize/listen to and consummately perform as of late--compared to classical music [mostly speaking of orchestral]. So little respect for real music, and no interest in the lineage of in the stuff mentioned here. Truly sad.

Mash, didn't mean to offend you. What I was saying was that in considering all aspects, orchestral music requires much more effort to organize, rehearse, and ultimately perform.

I didn't say that it doesn't take skill to play an instrument.

Umm, you probably missed the title of this thread by searching for posts by me, however, the title is "Concerts". Try reading what the topic is about before replying Sweedy.

You posted "homo" after I listed the concerts I attended. Not suprised really, others on this board also want to believe that I'm only acting (funny how they see through the truth that is really the fact, and not when I really am acting) We didn't think you'd be the one who would respond with the predictable comment, though.

Not trying to prove anything is better than something other. Just relaying facts that simplistic music has been more popular lately. And by your first reply, it seemed as if you were bashing classical.

Contemplate first.
