Is time of contrails
« on: November 08, 1999, 03:12:00 PM »
I have seen those cloud pictures and I am impressed... Then I wonder: can contrails also be rendered?

The tactical effect of contrails is decisive, making hight stalker planes vissible from a grat distance (specially bombers). It was during WW2, as it is now...

The Mintra level could be set at, let's say 28,000' to start with, and make it variable acording to the time of the day...

Think about it folks at HTC... is not that difficult and would be a really nice eyecatching adition to the game. And if you think is too easy... add then wingtip trails... hehehe.

Good luck.

What kind of Clouds is HT modeling?

High-Level Clouds (Bases above 18000-20000 ft)
Mid-Level Clouds (Bases between 6500-23000 ft)
Low-Level Clouds (Bases below 6500-7000 ft)

information http://www.click.or.jp/~fujiwara/cloud.htm

It is nice if we can get "Weather Chart" at tower

Ok... As far as I have seen here.. you are modelling only goood weather cumulus, at about 3000-12000 ft... is that correct? Thats more than fine to me, and is more than enough to add a tactical use of clouds (not taking in count distance icons here). Thx so much.

Ok... now to wing tip vortices... Have you seen any of the PC sims during... let's say... the last 12 months or so. I am sorry to tell you that many of them include wingtip vortices, so it must be at the reach of the LAST-BUT-ONE (or two or three) generation of cards. The first one, if I remember well, was DiD F-22 ADF, some time ago. I would also reccommend that you take a look to NATIONS, WW2 FIGHTER COMMAND, to mention one of the sims with good effects... yes, take a look and also take some notes. I don't think that adding this feature would make connects worse nor bad.. as this could be just a local machine effect (information packages already must include speed, altitude, attitude and Gs of the other aircraft..right?)

I then realize that if we can not enjoy contrails and wingtip vortices in AH, is not due to a hardware handicap, but a lack of will from the designers. We rould really appreciate having this eye candy feature and in my opinion, graphis alone would attract a lot of possible customers and newcomers to online aircombat. Think twice before refusing this option.

Thx for your time.

Dont know if it was intentional or not, but you came across as rather obtuse.

There is a significant difference between a single player game, and one that is massively multiplayer.

I personally have yet to see a "Multiplayer" game that incorporates the use of clouds.  Something that was a huge tactical element in airial combat.

So my hats off to HTC.

And, just for the record. From what Ive seen from HTC, if it can be done, theyll do it.

excatly.
Stand alone games only have to feed images to one subject, you. You are the only one that sees rain, clouds wingtip vortices etc...

Now massively multiplayer sims on the other hand have the host pumping out to all contacts within a predefined radious of the effect being generated.

So not only is the host now transmitting info on some XXX amount of contacts around you, it is also sending you info on the damage to those same contacts you'll also be getting the size, heading and volume of clouds and also info ground based activity (bombs/building damage/smoke plumes etc).

What will be needed is some cutting edge technology for not only the host but peoples computers as well as massive upgrades on connectivity for all involved.

Heya Joemud

Thought I was the only one with disdain for the id tags.

Something that would be kinda cool for those that have to have them.

Only have ID tags activated for those planes that closed to within 1k of to make a positive ID.  Then that Tag is on.

Kinda makes the ole sphinkter palpitate just thinkin about closing to 1k on an unknown con dont it?

ID off in H2H WB made for some increadable hide and seek games with a max alt of that of the mountains   I would like to see ID off till 1k and then mark it only red or grean distance numbers. I would say remove the numbers too but till they get TRUE 3d (ala VR total set up) in every household, we will continue to need some sort of gun range indication. but could even now take off the exacting ranges and got with 100s of yards.

as far as someone suggested a P7 650.... look again the Pentium 733 corpiliam hit the market a little over a week ago to large companies (dell compac gateway ect.) so heres to dreamin'

Retro? Cod no.

But I figure if Amigas, 386's and 486's
were the horse charriot and covered wagons of thier dfay then the Pentium was the Stnaley steamer and the Pent II had to be the equivalent of the Model "T"
