Hi HTC,
Have you considered adding the formation-thingie for ground vehicles?
Implementing GV-formations could be a great way to promote ground war in AH. More GVs mean more targets to strike aircraft / jabos / bombers, which mean more targets to fighters. Active ground war results in a more diverse arena, which is imho preferable.
Two issues that come into mind:
"Terrain avoidance"I can imagine the GV formation system would easily result in the AI drones getting stuck in the terrain or driving into objects and exploding. To prevent this, I can think of 3 possible solutions. These could all be implemented independently and would also work together. Feel free to think of more.
-Player responsibility. The player would choose a route which prevents the drones from colliding with objects or getting stuck into terrain. The drones would just blindly follow the leader in their position in the formation.
- Various formations. The player could choose a formation that would work in different situations. For example, in obstacle ridden environments (inside a city), the player could choose a line formation, where the drones follow the same path as the player. Other options could be wedge, echelon and line abreast. An option to spread and close formation would be useful in combat.
-"Obstacle avoidance radar" for the drones. The drones would observe the terrain ahead and choose their path accordingly. The simplest way would probably to just make the drones automatically follow the player's path in tight places.
Fire controlAnother issue that comes to mind is fire control for the drones. The simplest solution is to make the drones shoot where the player shoots, with the same weapon and ammunition, just like with the bombers.
I don't play tank sims, so those of you who play them might have more insight to the best way to implement a system like this.
Ideas and comments are welcome.
