I would say that the dweeb planes are the planes that most tend to fly because of the ease that you can obtain kills in them. In AH I would label the N1k, the LA-7 and the Spit IX as a dweeb plane. But on the other hand everyone pays their 15 frog pelts a month so fly whatever ya want. I do however wonder at times how people don't get bored with flying those planes into big furballs only to eventually get ganged and then repeat the process over and over again. In my book it is more challenging to grab a Jug and try to live through the constant clouds of the a fore mentioned planes to land a few. But then again that's what I like to do with my 15 frog pelts.

a dweeb plane is only created when someone uses a far superior plane to win a 1v1 battle, normally a la-7, spit IX or N1K, perk planes dont fall into this as you have a risk involved and give the opposition a reward if they can win.

eg, an plane is circling you base on his own looking for a 1v1 and you UP a vastly superior plane so you can get an easy kill. - not very sporting you are a dweeb up in a temp and the other guy wont care as theres a nice big perk reward if he can get you.

I would prefer to up an equally matched plane and let the pilot skill decide the outcome even if I died continuously.

At any other time ALL planes have an acceptable use.

I personally fly quite a few different planes but I dont get a kick getting a kill in a LA-7 like I do in a 109 F-4/Ki-61.

I've also noticed (some of my squad are guilty of this) that people dont understand the ENY perk system, if they did they might chose a spit V over the IX or the la-5 over the 7 etc.
realising that they will get more perks for their effort and that a high ENY i.e 40 doesn't necessarily mean its a dog.

There will always be K/D, furballing players who need any advantage they can get so that they can have their type of quick hit fun, but thats their game plan and the spits, la-7's ,N1k's make a sensible plane choice for them if you dont have hours to set up attacks.

Basically theres a plane for everone, fly all planes and learn about their weaknesses and strengths as  the enemy you dont know is a more dangerous enemy which leads to the myth of dweeb/uberness planes. :D

just my thoughts :)

A dweeb plane is any plane flown by a geek who spends upwards of 40 hrs a month sitting in front of a computer monitor pretending to be a pilot.

In other words, all of them.

Admittedly, I am a reformed dweeb.  I started out 3 or 4 months ago flying Spits and Nickies just because they were easier to control (never liked the LA7 though).  I have since migrated from time to time to the F6F, the 51D and my recent fave the 47D (love that firepower).

As for dweeb planes, I have taken the approach of not tangling with Spits, LA7s or Nickies AT ALL unless I am sure I can kill them on the first pass.  Maybe I'm a dweeb for hanging out high over a low furball and blowing through with my hair on fire and all 8 .50s firing (rather than mixing it up on the deck), but, to the extent possible in the MA, I lean towards realism (at least on my part), so I won't furball with such fine aircraft while riding a Pony or Jug.

Question is, if there is a "dweeb" plane that you come up against (and I agree the dweeb title is usually shouted out loudest once you are killed by one), why not adopt your tactics to exploit the Spit, LA7 or Nickies weaknesses?

Finally, an answer that I can readily agree with.  Thanks Fur!

Dweeb planes are merely a misconception...they do not exist...however, what does exist in many players, is the innate ability to kid themselves.

EG......

"YOU LUCKY *&%*&#!!!!" "That's the ONLY way you can kill me is flyin that UFO Niki piece of *%^$!!!!"

Seems to me, the reason I get shot down, is due to making poor choices....of course the lack of some ACM skilz might have something to do with this as well...oh yeah, the other fellow might be better than I am?

NO WAY MAN!!!! I AM SPARTICUS!!!!!!
