« on: July 15, 2002, 09:31:38 AM »
Hi all .

I have played this game  for the last 3 weeks or so now ..and i have some views on AH.

negative things:

* Hard to get into ..have to read page up and page down for info .
* Fighters coudnt handle them at all
* new bombing allmost ruined the game for me
* No real FAQ`s like how to fight in the air ...im not a ww2 fanatic or planes . I flyed a cessna 172 in RL thats about it .

* Noobs having a hard time after flying (taking off ) for the last 20 min and they get shot down all the time..thats the REALY boring thing about beeing a noob .

* Pizza map ..allso to BIG , but imagine how a noob feels when there are 100 logged ppl , and he cant see anyone.

Possitive things

* the 2 weeks free trial ..i woudnt have bought this game and prob never ever tryed it , if i hasnet been for that .. +++ AH

* Very nice ppl in game , helping and sutch...after 3 days i allready was in a squad ( thx 68th crusaders )

* I got alot of help online after i found out how to send msg...(english keyboard aint like my norwegian keyboard )

First things first ..many possitive and negative impressions, but i think that they HAVE to go back and do some work on MAP`s ...

The bombing is hard , way to hard and the dogfights allso .... atleast try make some tactics Faq`s like how to climb ...how to engade ennemy and so on.

Wel thats it .

Welcome to the ROTPWDHAL! (That's "Ranks Of The People Who Don't Have A Life" for the acronym impaired :D)

The negative side seems to be mostly consisted of learning curve issues, and really, I can't blame you. I used to fly in Fighter Ace 2.0 Relaxed Realism arena, and thought I was a pretty adept virtual fighter pilot :D Boy did I get my pride whacked off my rear-end!

But as time passed and I began to learn things with the help of many good fellows, all that 'negative' became a huge 'positive' in moments. AH is a very very hard game compared to some other MMOG flight sims out there, but it is that much immersive and rewarding once you notice the beauty of it all. :)

 ...

The issues concerning air combat, to be frank, can't be explained with a FAQ. I believe your best odds are asking for help to a specific situation in the "Help and Training" forums, where many skilled pilots will take the time to answer your questions thoroughly.

 Good luck!

To climb...pull back on stick;)

Couldn't resist that one, sorry.

Talk to your squaddies about the tactics they employ...but if you really want advice post on the Help and Training BB.  Ask Ghosth to help you train..or any of the trainers...they will answer your questions.

As far as this game being hard...you are right...it's very hard.  But that is the beauty of it...if it was really easy you'd be bored within a month or two.  As it stands I equate AH with golf...some days you kill everything in sight and have a great "round"...you think you have the game "figured out"...then the next day you SUCK.

Welcome to AH...see ya up.

JANN, brother.

i've been in engaged in ops when you are in the area. you're doing ok.

i've been flying o/l for a couple years, and still suck. but i have fun, and that is the most imortant thing.

try the training arena to practice new stuff and to get some advise.
all you fascists, you're bound to lose...

Yes, it can be hard to understand how every button works and how to work the controls and the views and set everything up, so you just have to spend some time with the HELP files and then maybe visit http://www.netaces.org to get some more advice and learn some shortcuts to the game.

Try flying the Spitfire IX first, and the N1K2, and maybe the FM-2 and Zero if you don't mind flying slow.  These planes have easy flight models that are difficult to stall but easy to recover if you do stall.  You should practice your stall recovery and gunnery practice offline using the drones that circle the airfield.

You mean the new rules for setting the bombsites?  You can always try divebombing and then when you feel more confident you can learn how to calibrate the bombsites on the level bombers.

You should visit http://www.netaces.org to get some good advice about how to dogfight and shoot.  You might also want to visit the Training Arena to learn more things about particular aircraft.  You can also visit the H2H areas to fly for free and learn more without risking your "real" score in the Main Arena.

That's why you take the time to practice gunnery offline and learn how to dogfight.  If it was easy, then we'd all be aces.

Try the CT or the H2H areas to find a quick fight.  I did that over the weekend and had a lot of fun.  The fights took place in a smaller area, so there was no waiting.

Hi Jannerik :)

Yep its hard, I was also had delusions of grandeur until I got in here and died over and over again at the hand of just average AH pilots :D
I've been flying here for 3 months (still a Noob) and this is what I think could help you.

Bombing yes its been hard but I think I can say as a whole it been a difficult time bombing for everyone since 1.10 came out and people are only now getting to grips with it.

pick any plane which is half decent and stick with it untell you know it inside out and you will start to get kills (important for self gratification) maybe take a month to do this, then start experimenting with different planes, that way if thing are going bad you can jump into YOUR plane that you know and get some kills

gotta go hope this helps

Jan-

The best way to learn fighter combat tactics is to get the best jock in your squad to spend an hour with you in the training arena. I did that, and though I am still a poor fighter pilot at best, my skills improved dramatically after only one hour.

Mind you, I've been at this for over a year.

Aces High as a steep learning curve. My first 3 weeks were spent learning how to avoid stalling my fighter.

As for bombing being difficult, as a die hard bomber pilot, I love it this way. The old laser sight bombing was much too easy. Anything that is challenging is worth doing in my book.

Keep at it, and maybe in a year, you'll be as bad as me! No matter what, it's a fun ride.

I've been in AH for about 10 months, before that AW for 2 years.  I suck, but I have fun.  Being part of a squad that regularly flies together makes a big difference.  I find it quite boring if I'm up flying on a non squad nite.

Auto take off, auto pilot, combat trim, padlock, inflight radar, check-six, stall limiter, inflight stick calibration, gui key mapping....

Be happy, the learning curve ain't as steep as it used to be.

Like others have suggested, spend some time in the TA with a trainer or experienced squaddie.

Yes, I have to agree with Mogi. A squad makes the game, to me as well.

Example: My best night ever was last week. 3 Squaddies were defending a Vehicle Base  on a Non-Squad night. They were in Panzers, and outnumbered 2 to 1. First, they called for a supply drop, which I did quickly using an M3. What a rush, tearing around the desert dodging Panzer Shells, dropping supplies to reload the defending panzers.

Then when the numbers went up to 3 to 1, the squaddies defending called for air support.  I took a P-47 from the nearest base, and came in low on the deck. In an unbelievable sortie (for me, anyway) , I dive bombed and destroyed 2 Panzers, and then killed a Flak panzer with a Rocket attack. When the sector was clear, I called Bingo, told the squad I was RTB, and did a victory roll over one of our tanks. The guys appreciated it, and I felt like I did my job.

This is my favorite mission of all time. Not because we took a base, or had a massive number of kills. It was simply interacting with real people in a throughly immersive game. Teamwork, and the gratification from it, makes AH the great game it is, in my opinion.

It's tough to find this kind of comraderie in most other games.

I have a project in work, with lot of help for newbies, and expirienced pilots also, will be ready around start/middle of September if I will have a workload == to what I have now, and it will be ready later if my schedule will change. Will have all game help and hints from someone, who is with AH from its first days.

Jannerik, you want netaces.org, not netaces.com.  netaces.com is a totally different site. :)
