Results? I don't know where you get that.  Seems they are just starting to get going on you.

Your pressence has only forced them to get together and conclude that all of your sources are wrong and they still know absolutely everything about BMWs and their paint.  Somehow they've done this without posting any sources of their own... but self-affirmation goes a long way.

"My BMW has clearcoat" and "I detailed a BMW last week that had clearcoat" has magically been transformed to "all BMWs have clearcoat".

I guess detailers really do know more about paint than body guys.

I wouldn't say "more", but I would say equal,...if you use the wrong product (Polish, Paint cleaner, or polymer/carnauba wax)or use a random orbital polisher incorrectly on a finish that you do not recognize a clear coat on, you can ruin the finish.  If you compete in a concours, its critical. Most guys  into detailing (Like I've been for 27 years) do their own paint chip repair, in my case, I had an area that was "keyed" stem to stern on my door (I suspect the kids bicycle handle) and the results came out perfect.  You can't even see the (to the primer) scratch anymore.  If I had take that to a body shop, they most likely would have convinced me to paint the entire door.
