Rip-
Sorry I missed the post.
I bought 6 4'by 4' sheets of 9/16" thick double sanded plywood at 25.99 a pop.
I'm pretty sloppy, but even I only used 4 sheets. Also, some tips:
If your going to use your Desktop in a permamnent position, like me, there are ALOT of cuts you don't have to make. The piece comes out cleaner, and you don't have to notch the wood. I replaced several notches with wood screws and my piece came out much cleaner and sturdier. So if it's not going to be a potable piece, send me an e-mail at
jpizzo127@yahoo.com and I'll talk you through some of the changes.
Also, get 2 rolls of black contact paper. (Great for covering the dash board, and the monitor stand. The contact paper covers the notches and gives the dash a clean look.
Get some magnetic tape for your HOTAS. (Velcro if you don't have a cougar, but if you don't have a cougar, your not allowed to build this)
Also, I used some thin panel boards to cover some of the areas I found to be unsightly (The underside of armrests for example. If you look at my picture, these are the area's painted gray)
What else....hmmm...you can make your own stencils using contact paper and printouts from the net. A rollerbrush lightly coated with paint will give a stencil that military worn look.
Oh, theres a few tricks to doing your seat right. And upholstering it is a Biatch!
Anyway, gimme a yell if you need help, and I'll walk you through whatever you need. Just be ready to make modifications to fit your specific tastes.
OH! Caster wheels....you might want to think about that. It will make the seat easier to get in and out of.
If the mood hits me, I may build another one, now that I know what changes to make in the process.
Any help you need, just pop me an e-mail, and I'll give you my number.
