There you go Dirk... you question answered and validated.  :D

Surprised it took them so long.  ;)

Still a few more to come yet and you'll have the whole crowd that cause most of the discord.

They'll need the last word to maintain their status, so I'll stop posting now to keep this thread short.

I still have no idea who this Ruskie is talking about..

Are there some people posting that for some reason I can't see in this thread?

Hmmm

This particular reply is not as 'personal' as a lot I see here - but it is this one I was referring to.  Personal because the by the nature of these boards it refers to people already commenting on thinking $30 is a lot of money per month.

I don't see that as personal at all, I see that as a true-to-life statement. Advice if you will.

If you were snorting cocaine, and complaining it cost too much, well I think we know the obvious solution. Work more, or quit the habit.

<shrug> That doesn't even remotely come to close to offending me.

Who is Ruskie?

What part of  “Is $360 per year for AH?” and my answer “that is dirt cheap” do you resent so much Steve?

AH is cheap, it’s way well worth it, and if you think $30/month or $360/year, or a $1/day or however you want to split the cost up is excessive at all, it’s my opinion you shouldn’t pay to play. Obviously those players would have time and financial obligations elsewhere that’s all. It’s not rude, just my opinion.

Perhaps, as you elude to, there are indeed highly educated people that have a lot of expenses and find $30/month excessive. However, I’d venture to guess that education is not in accounting, economics, or finance. To be successful and that buried in bills $1 seems excessive? Ok, I guess it’s possible.

I find it ironic that where my post was a simple opinion and quite a matter of fact, it’s your post that directly insults me (quoting my response) and then inferring I’m incapable of a adult discussion, I put off potential players, and have turned the thread into a playground. When you post a “woe is me, these BBS bullies are so terrible, why does a discussion about whether or not the game is good value turn into personal insults? “, you have to be clever enough not to insult people while doing it. It discredits your complaint, as it makes you what your so concerned about. You have to work on that. Granted, I don’t care what you say about me, it just is self defeating your purpose.

$1 a day, I’m sticking to it.

"Who is Ruskie?"

Good question. An enigma I believe. Or more just a handle used to hide his real in-game callsign because he's afraid what he says here might tarnish whatever reputation he might have. Or he's a WB player lurking around here teetering on the fence between AH land and WB land.

Or he's just some player's one of many aliases used to reply to himself to make himself seem like he's got a lot of people on his side and he does this with the intention of thinking sheer numbers will influence people.

You're right about one thing Creamo, he is one of those people he detests so much.

Being a self-righteous hypocrit can't be good for the health.

Well, point taken and I apologise if I offended you directly (which was not my intention).

Dirk,

I'm surprised no one mentioned the Free Head to Head play. It's not like the Main Arena with 30-150+ people online but it is a fight against real people.

I can understand where $30 a month could be considered quite a bit of money, but if you don't think you'll be online enough to justify it then your better off with the free head to head anyway.

See it as a hobby.

Let's compare it to one of the other things I do in my spare time  :). I usually try to go scuba diving at least 2-3 times a week during the summer, and once a week during the cold months.

So, naturally, I first had to invest in some gear.

Drysuit: $1000 (for cold water diving)
Wetsuit: $350 (not too hot during the summer)
Fins: $140
Mask: $60
Knife: $50
Dive computer: $410
Underwater compass: $40
Regulator set: $560

Just for the gear, that's $2610. Then there's yearly maintenance of regulators and suits, and that ain't too cheap either. Of course, add a membership fee for a club and, when yer on weird locations, a fee for refilling yer tanks.

Of course you could rent gear, but that's very expensive and you never know what piece of crap you get - and I don't gamble with life supporting equipment.

Now, for my hobby Aces High. I need 1 decent computer, which I already have purchased for other purposes. Upgrading it once every two years sets me back $350 or so. Aces High fee another 350.

Compared to scuba diving, it's dirt cheap. Compared to skydiving, even more so (how does $10 for 50 seconds of fun sound?).

If viewed as a hobby, it's cheap. If viewed as something in the same category as TV, it's probably expensive.
2 * 12 litre 230 bar tanks: $350

That’s a good analogy Santa.  I have my own reloading press, bench, dies, digital scales, etc which was far more than AH.  Of course the more I reload and reuse the brass, the more money I make back.  The last time I figured it out I had already fired enough rounds that I paid back the press   ;).

With powder, bullets, primers, targets and range fees Aces High is less expensive.

G'day all

I can see how US$360/year seems like a LOT to pay for a game, I live in Australia, and our dollar is worth roughly half what the US Dollar is, so we are talking just shy of $750/year I pay to play Aces High.
It costs me pretty much the same to register my car for 12 months.
My car takes me from point A, to point B, in a reasonably comfortable fasion, and a lot faster than
I could walk......I kinda like that, so I dont mind paying rego.
Aces High, on the other hand, takes me to some amazing places, gives me the chance to 'bring to life' some of my boyhood dreams,
and has introduced me to some of the most amazing people on this planet.
I've met mad Me109 driving Germans with their bloodlust up, I've been hunted down by redneck Americans in Mustangs, I've been blown
to fragments by raving mad Englishmen in Spitfires, made a mockery of by flashy Italians in ....err.....those flashy Italian C thingies.
I've escorted fresh faced B17 crews half way across Europe, and I've laughed hideously while my 190's guns tore a Lancaster to shreds.
I've dragged a wounded Hellcat what felt like halfway across the Pacific, dodging Japanese fighter patrols, only to witness my carrier wear
a spread of torpedoes amidships as I turned in on finals.
I've sat peering into the darkness through the gunsight of my Lancaster's tail turret, praying i didnt see any fighters, but at the same time hoping like hell I saw them before they saw me, and I've seen mates and wingmen spiralling Earthward in a ball of flame.
I've experienced the sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach, when you realise that what seemed like an easy target, is in fact a way better stick than yourself.
I've felt the exhileration of winning a hard fought one on one dogfight that lasted 10 minutes, I've laughed and pulled the trigger when a sucker move has worked.
I've kicked my desk and sworne up a storm when I was promptly shown who the real sucker was.
I've seen truely awesome displays of courage in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds, and I've seen guys crumble and run at the first sign of aggression.
I have a dozen or so squadmates who I've never met, but count as some of the best friends I have, as well as a thousand or so guys who are into the same kind of stuff that I am, and dont mind me sharing their hobby and 'playtime' with them.

All that for the same as it costs me to register my car.
Two bucks a day, and to me, having that much fun, and interacting with so many differant types of people from all around the world on a daily basis, is worth way more than legally being allowed to drive my car on public roads :)

US$30/month?.....worth every cent.
