G'day all
I can see how US$360/year seems like a LOT to pay for a game, I live in Australia, and our dollar is worth roughly half what the US Dollar is, so we are talking just shy of $750/year I pay to play Aces High.
It costs me pretty much the same to register my car for 12 months.
My car takes me from point A, to point B, in a reasonably comfortable fasion, and a lot faster than
I could walk......I kinda like that, so I dont mind paying rego.
Aces High, on the other hand, takes me to some amazing places, gives me the chance to 'bring to life' some of my boyhood dreams,
and has introduced me to some of the most amazing people on this planet.
I've met mad Me109 driving Germans with their bloodlust up, I've been hunted down by redneck Americans in Mustangs, I've been blown
to fragments by raving mad Englishmen in Spitfires, made a mockery of by flashy Italians in ....err.....those flashy Italian C thingies.
I've escorted fresh faced B17 crews half way across Europe, and I've laughed hideously while my 190's guns tore a Lancaster to shreds.
I've dragged a wounded Hellcat what felt like halfway across the Pacific, dodging Japanese fighter patrols, only to witness my carrier wear
a spread of torpedoes amidships as I turned in on finals.
I've sat peering into the darkness through the gunsight of my Lancaster's tail turret, praying i didnt see any fighters, but at the same time hoping like hell I saw them before they saw me, and I've seen mates and wingmen spiralling Earthward in a ball of flame.
I've experienced the sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach, when you realise that what seemed like an easy target, is in fact a way better stick than yourself.
I've felt the exhileration of winning a hard fought one on one dogfight that lasted 10 minutes, I've laughed and pulled the trigger when a sucker move has worked.
I've kicked my desk and sworne up a storm when I was promptly shown who the real sucker was.
I've seen truely awesome displays of courage in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds, and I've seen guys crumble and run at the first sign of aggression.
I have a dozen or so squadmates who I've never met, but count as some of the best friends I have, as well as a thousand or so guys who are into the same kind of stuff that I am, and dont mind me sharing their hobby and 'playtime' with them.
All that for the same as it costs me to register my car.
Two bucks a day, and to me, having that much fun, and interacting with so many differant types of people from all around the world on a daily basis, is worth way more than legally being allowed to drive my car on public roads
US$30/month?.....worth every cent.
