The AW I will miss died about the time of the Big PAC at GS, so coming here was an active choice for me months ago and one long overdue because lingering, unreturned loyalty and sentimentality. Hell, I ONLY played in scenarios the last year or so, which made HTCs $30/month a real steal in fun per hour compared to AW.
I think the post a few months back over at EA from that AW board moderator who will remain nameless and clueless (about the time it became apparent AWIV was going on indefinite hold), where he told us to stop complaining about no major updates because we were just lucky EA was spending all that money just to support our silly habit -- well that soured it. Several posts, mine included, reminded the moron just whose money it was they were spending to keep our habit alive, and that at some point we expect something better than 15 year old code. I stated looking for other alternatives the next day and never looked back.
I picked AH because it was the closest sim I could find with a COMMUNITY like that in the DOS days, where people on this board actually debated issues like aircraft performance and ACM, and other WW2/avaition geek stuff. Strokes, tools, good guys, and wind bags like myself, but a familiar and comfortable environment. Then, what a joy to discover that the quality of the actual sim was fantastic.
HT and Pyro (and the rest of course) have done what me or you or any other enthusiast would do if we could -- make the game we would want to play. They do a dammed fine job, listen to the players and experiment with suggestions. You have to respect that.
While the final nail in the AW coffin is certainly sad, remember what AW had become. Appreciate how rare the HTC approach is in this corporate world today -- hopefully it will last. And I’ll say it again, respect it in its own right. It is worth a lot of loyalty, and appreciation in its own right, at least as long as HTC stays on track

Another thing AW taught me, unfortunately, is an appreciation for the limits of loyalty.
