Wish I had film of THIS one...
« on: July 13, 2000, 07:28:00 AM »
Flyin my a5 this evenining, I dove on a 109 at about 12-15k alt that was pestering me country mate.  As I pass by, I see his wing shear off, chunks fly, and flame billowing out the side of his plane, as it rolls over and starts its death plummet.  I start to grab alt, watching over my shoulder to savor the kill.  He is leaving a nice white and black trail down.  He gets to what appeared to be less than alt 1k, and I am preparing for the inevitable crash, when all of a sudden he warps backwards, up through his own smoke trail, to approx. 4.5k from me and co-alt, then hovers there for a while, flying lazily around, with no smoke or other sign of distress.  Approx. 1-2 minutes later, I finally get a kill message.  I am sure it was just one of those funky net lag things... no doubt in my mind... but it sure woulda been an interesting conversation starter, to say the least.  Just had to share my "weirdest sortie" story.

I am pretty sure that was an Alt F4 Dweeb.  I know that there are instances of Ghost Planes, and I don't see them as often anymore, but it is definetly a case of the pilot disconnecting (whether intentional or not) before the crash.  You got the kill message when he finally got AH all closed out, until then there wasn't confirmation of his death/disconnection.

I have attacked many Ghosts and it is pretty aggrivating.

Some of these "alt-F4 dweebs" may actually be people like myself, who have been dumping to the desktop when entering a fight.

I don't think it's caused by Dumping to desk top which apparently is a common bug on quite a few systems (did you get the RW beta release?) and I am not seeing the Ghosts that often.  I do know that one guy Alt F4'd.  Relogged right away, and saw his own Ghost. (he told me so.)

So I equate it too, Quite a few dump to desktops, but hardly any ghosts means ghosts are Alt F4'rs and dump to desktops are just Warp Awayers.

I have seen similar twice.. in first case guy disconnected after couple warps (scared toejam out of me when i saw him warp behind me and then i lost vis as he disconnected)

then I saw once plane hang in the air and move slowly ahead with nose up.
I shot him there like some practice target and then he warped down with looooong trail of black smoke and i got the kill. (took over 1 minute)

From what i've seen Alt-f4s usually freeze for(guess depends on connect)for about 4-5 sec and then zoom backwards.
