F4us dont take off so easily from CV since 1.10
« on: July 22, 2002, 06:46:04 AM »
Is it me the only one who has noticed it?.

Since 1.10 was realised... I have too many "BOOM" took off from CV. I need WEP and 3 notchs of flaps when I take a DT. Gear raises too late and I always pray. It didnt happened to me before.

Did you notice this?

Thx

No probs here either. I would do the following:

Set flaps to 100%
Run engine up to 100% and hit War Emergency power.
When you drop (literally) off the end of the deck, then ease back on the stick, bring your gear up, wait until the sink rate drops and stabilizes, then begin to bring your flaps up.

Launching in a fully loaded F4U-1D or 1C (100% fuel, 8 rockets, 2k bombs) has never been an easy adventure, and our particular squad revisits "CV OPS" once a year to re-qualify so that we don't accidently lose any aircraft in the Special events "Tour of Duty" due to something stupid like "basics". ;)  In our CV ops, you must launch, and trap off 3 consecutive times in a row, with the same airframe without backing up on the CV.

100% really?  I've use 3 notches myself, all else the same.  Or I just back up.

I personally do it with 1/2 flaps, but I always recommend 100%(the safest), folks can experiment once they get comfortable after that. Another thing that helps too is applying it while your on your take off, you can build up alittle more speed that way.

The difference is if you use auto take-off from a CV.  I noticed this in the F6F (so I use ATO - sue me :)).  If you don't use ATO, the take-off is the same as before.

I always found a fully loaded F4U-1D to be very difficult in upping from a CV, seems same as before to me.

to Back up with a f4 open throtle to about 2200 to 2400 rpm and you will roll back I go to almost the end and can get a fully loaded fueled chog up .....

PS dont try when boat turning or you will go off edge

cheers

Something to do with winds perhaps?

Just a guess.  I have not noticed anything with my hellcat takeoffs, I gave up fully loaded C&D hog takeoffs until I get a rudder that works (using keyboard rudder controls right now).
