(hate to say this) Possible Mitsu sound problems
« on: July 22, 2002, 10:39:53 AM »
Ok guys,  First off, I am NOT knocking Mistus sounds.  They are incredible and completely changed the imersion level I feel when flying.

Secondly, as a programmer, I realize the amount of work that goes into something like this, and the amount of testing that just can't be accomplished against 50,000 different combinations of hardware and software.  So no flaming, ok?

I loaded Mitsu's sounds back in 1.09, and upgraded after 1.10 came out.  Then due to repeated lockups (complete system lockups, not just AH) I deleted my AH directory and reloaded everything, including the latest sound pack.

I started getting about 2-3 crashes a night, and chalked it up to heat/AH/system problems.  Then I began noticing something.  It always happened when some combination of sounds was playing (engine+explosion+gunfire for example).  It was not the same set of sounds, (and sometimes it included Vox transmissions).  But it was always some combination of sounds.

Three days ago, I unloaded mitsu's sounds, and have not had a single lockup since.

If you are experiencing this kind of issue, go ahead and try and back out mitsu's sounds and see if that helps.

(I'm using the built in sound card on my
Dragon+ motherboard if anyone cares.)

Thanks Ouch....was going to load up the new sounds.

I still get an occasional CTD or lockup and like you, believe it is proximity related with some sound conflicts thrown in for good measure.

You might do as I have and only use a limited amount of Mitsu's sounds...I never really have any probs.

I use a lot of custom sounds, some from Mitsu and some from other places.

I haven't had any major problems.  Had my first CTD in a long time last night, but I've been playing 1.10 without any other problems.

I use some of Mitsu's sounds, and some of my own. Never had a lock up problem until 1.10. Had a bunch since though, hard ones requiring the use of the power switch.

I think it's something to do with 1.10 rather than the sounds.:(
